It seems to get so much worse around AF time. I went to the chiropractor a few months ago, and they said its bone on bone back there. "degenerative (sp?) disc disease) Of course they wanted to see me 3 times a week, and I dont have the copay for that. lol. I should probably go see my primary care.
It just seems so much worse since I had LO. Anyone else?
Re: anyone with lower back pain?
Have you ever tried the cortizone (sp?) shots?
I do, but totally different reasons. I got the Essure (or something like that, haven't had my coffee yet) permanent BC implant and I got 2 weeks of super pain meds after it was done. I had horrible back pain and cramps for well over 4 months though.
I really hope you get some relief, whether it's with a chiropractor or shots or something.
Mine is a pinching feeling too. You go to the dr. and let me know what they say. I refuse to go until my pelvice exam in November. lol. Maybe I will schedule a visit with my primary care at the same time. Who knows. Instead I just sit here and complain my back hurts. lol.
TB ate my response.
Long story short:
I have scoliosis. It sucks. Was going to see a chiro, but now PG and too scared.
I have a form of spina bifida and may or may not have degenerative spinal arthritis (but I'm too scared to get tested so I just do the exercises, heh).
Oddly enough, mine has gotten way better since I had Joaquin. But, to open myself for flaming, I'm really not down with seeing a chiropractor either way. Were I to seek treatment I'd go see a rheumatologist (because the whole spinal arthritis deal is an immune system issue more than a straight nerve/bone issue) and an orthopedist.
No, and I dont want to!
Referring to what Valley said- I wonder if mine could be weight issues too.
Broc- I was hesitant about the chiropractor myself. Thats why I want to follow up with my primary care. Not to mention I can not go 3 times a week, at 20 dollars a pop. I mean I could..but that is ridiculus.
Yes, I suffered from severe over-loosening of the ligaments in my pelvis while PG--over-simplified, the bottom part of my pelvis actually separated (pubis symphysis diastasis). After delivery, it came back together torqued, which impacted my lower back severely. While I'm guessing that is not what you are experiencing, as my case thankfully does not happen to many women, I have learned a TON about this sort of pain.
When AF comes, the loosening hormone of relaxin gets higher. So, that may play in for you. Many women--especially athletes--ache more and are more susceptible to injury around AF. If you are nursing, your base level of relaxin already is higher. I have been told that I will remain in chronic pain until 2-4 months after I wean because my relaxin levels are crazy high (hence why my pelvis did the weird thing to begin with). While I think consulting a PCP is a fine idea, just remember that masking the pain doesn't solve the root problem and can actually lead you to hurting your body without the pain to guide your action. So, learning proper back care, core strengthening, etc. may also be really valuable. I also suggest getting a second opinion from a chiro who is a specialist in women's health and PG-related conditions. There also may be some supplements that can help like magnesium, fish oil, etc.
ETA--I have spent thousands on my medical care this year.
I spent much of my maternity leave going to the chiro plus doctors and PT (3+ appts per week between them all). It has been a tough pill to swallow, but the money spent on having less pain is well worth the things we'vechosen to give up. I think of it this way: we could've had a refinished basement for LO to play in this winter, but I wouldn't have been able to play with him in that amount of pain. We could've gone on vacation, but I wouldn't have been able to do anything active on it.
