DS is 4 yo, 39#, 42", and I'm looking for a light weight (i.e. convenient for air travel and moving between cars) booster with a 5-point harness option and good safety stats. We have the Marathon in our regular cars, but know we'll need a booster eventually, and I think it might make sense to get it now and use it in the babysitter's car, for travel, etc. (but since we'll use it now, I wouldn't consider moving him out of 5-point yet) Any recommendations?
Thanks!
(even if not a specific suggestion, if there's a website you recommend, that would be helpful too.)
Re: One more booster seat question
We've been pleased with our Graco Nautilus.
Converts from a 5 point to a high back booster and then finally to just the booster seat when they're bigger so it's the last seat you'd need to buy.
It weighs a lot less than our Britax's, it's thinner and has a nice handle at the top that makes slinging it from car to car much much easier than with the Britax's that we have.
Total score: 6 pregnancies, 5 losses, 2 amazing blessings that I'm thankful for every single day.
Very happy with our Graco Nautilus here. DD is 4 yrs 36 lbs and 40 in and fits very nicely in it. She's in the 5 pt harness. She loves her cup holder and little storage areas under the arm rests to store her little toys. Easy to clean.
I would look into the Safety First Go Hybrid. It's not a traditional plastic shell seat. It actually folds in half which makes it super awesome for traveling, but you can't use it on airplanes so if that's what you meant by air travel then this seat won't work.
The only catch with it is that you havet o have the upper tether to secure the seat. You can secure the bottom with either lower anchors (up to 40 pounds in most cars) or the seatbelt. It 5-pt harnesses to 65 pounds, not sure on the height, but my 5 year old still has lots of room and she's 46-47". And then it converts to a regular booster. It's way more lightweight than any other seat. Installation is a breeze. No rethreading the harness straps. It's also very very narrow.
For the 5 point harness? The top or back seat tether? Maybe we aren't using the same terms but I specifically chose the seat we have because it has a 5pt harness but at my child's weight and age can be used with a seat belt install without a top tether. One of our cars has the tether option and the other two DS rides in are older cars and do not offer that option without aftermarket installation which hasn't been done yet. The Britax manual advises parents to use it when available and it is required after a specific size (which my child is not yet), but it isn't required for a correct installation as it is in the Safety First Go seat.
