Long Beach Airport - XP

I know this is a long shot, but the California boards are absolutely dead.  Is anybody familiar with the Long Beach Airport?  We are taking a cruise and are trying to avoid the shuttle fee and we need to stop and get our booze.  Is there a gas station within walking distance from the airport where we can get a taxi to take to the boat?

TIA!

Angie

  • not from the airport, no. but by the cruise terminal, walk past the queen mary and there's a free shuttle to town. i think it was called the "red line" or something,(the bus was red)  the bus was completely free, and took us downtown. i dont know what booze places there are, but i'm sure you'd find something there. it has several stops, one also near the aquarium, and we took the stop at the mall which was walking distance to the downtown businesses, metro lines etc.

fwiw, h and i took this shuttle from the cruise, to downtown, and then took transit to the airport, and it only cost us $2 each. much better price than a taxi or airport shuttle!

  • I haven't taken a cruise and am totally clueless about how it works.... I didn't think you were allowed to bring your own alcohol on board. I was watching a documentary about the industry and it showed them taking bottles of alcohol from people who were boarding and then getting it back at the end of the cruise. Is that not the case for all cruise ships??

  • I've never been on a cruise either, but friends have regularly had success hiding their alcohol in their luggage. You have to pay per drink on the ship so they saved a ton of money. I think it's about the equivalent of sneaking snacks into a movie theater and I used to do that all the time as a high schooler/broke college student.
  • Thanks for the tips!  We are on Carnival line, and per their rules, each person is allowed to take on one small bottle of wine, and a 6(?) pack of soda.  And, ummm, the "7-Up" may taste a lot like vodka :)
