November 2011 Moms

Wow...really? Crappy 35 weeks appt.

So I had my 35 weeks appointment today and I am pretty sure my doctor is an idiot.

First, she did my GBS test and didn't bother to tell me before she did it that there was a rectal swab included. I sure as heck didn't know that.

Then she hands me an info sheet welcoming me to my third trimester,

Then she says she wants to see me back in 3 weeks. That's right, at 35 weeks I am still not being seen even bi-weekly.

I do not have a whole lot of faith in this woman.

  • Indifferent

Wow, that is frightening. Sounds like she is in for a surprise when you give birth in 5 weeks.

Um...yeah.  I'm on weekly visits at 35 weeks.  Why is she welcoming you to third trimester when you're getting ready to complete it lol.  Are there any other docs in the practice?  Don't be afraid to ask for what you want in the mean time-even if its insisting bi-weekly visits.

  • Did you inform her of your due date and what week you were when she started sharing the third trimester information?  I wonder if she had your chart mixed up with someone else or was reading something incorrectly.  I would definitely call your practice and ask why you aren't being seen weekly (or at least bi-weekly) at this point.  Also, have you had other issues with her in the past or was this a fluke?  I would be asking a lot more questions and demanding answers, especially when this is becoming "go time."

There is?!? Thanks for the heads up! Definitely something I'm not looking forward to tomorrow morning at 8am- especially since I've been battling hemmies. Pregnancy just keeps getting better and better.

  • I've never been seen bi-weekly. Actually next Tuesday will be my first one and I'll be 38 weeks by then. It's not that big of a deal. To me it's less of a waste of time.

I agree. I am seen bi-weekly and I can't stand it. I miss a day of work, I wait for 1.5-2 hrs to be seen for 2 minutes. Pisses me off.

  • It almost sounds like she had someone's else's medical file. I mean, handing you a 'welcome to your third tri' at 35 weeks?

Thanks for the heads up about the rectal swab. I had no idea. Can't wait.

  • The rectal swap was like 2 seconds. Seriously, not a big deal. Don't worry!

I didn't have a rectal swab done...they did the vaginal swab and then when coming out of my vagina they swabbed down my perineum.

Right that's what mine was too. But I think she did get all the way to the rectum at the end there.
  • I think it's more likely that you're cranky and hormonal than that this doctor is an idiot.

First of all, if she did your GBS swab she OBVIOUSLY knows exactly how far along you are.  I'll be tif you take a minute to READ the info she gave you, it probably covers the test she just did and that would be why she gave it to you.

Second, not all OBs do biweekly appointments for a normal, uncomplicated, low risk pregnancy.  The office assistants at my office always have to ask me, "are you a two week person or a three week person?"  So, don't freak out, just be grateful you're not having any issues.

I think you;re just choosing not to have much faith in her and looking for problems where there aren't any.

  • The rectal swab isn't that big of deal, however, it would have been nice to know it was coming instead of being surprised by it.

As for choosing not to have that much faith in her, that is correct. She hasn't given me much to go on. That is not just based on today's visit.

I did read the paper work she gave me. Which was given to me after the exam and it did not say anything about a rectal swab.

  • Yeah, that just doesn't sound right. I'd call the receptionist and ask if it's normal for you to be seen that late. I go to a practice where there are 4 doctors, so it's nice to see them all again so close to the birth.

*Just an FYI for those of you saying that you weren't aware the swab went around your rectum. It doesn't go in, just around the outside. Hope that makes you feel a little better!

Hmm sounds like a bit of projection to me

  • On the plus side, not having bi-weekly appointments just means you are doing great and there is nothing concerning going on! I started my bi-weekly appts a month late for that reason.
  • i dont start weekly visits till im 37 weeks, but i'm still scared of your doctor! too late to switch?
