June 2012 Moms

i'm freaking out...

i am blaming this on a pregnancy symptom, but this time every night, I start to freak out.

I just read all of these posts where you all know your beta numbers and levels and other crazy numbers and I know NOTHING. I know that I peed on a stick and it said "Pregnant". I don't have my first appt. for another week and a half. Should I ask to be seen earlier? I'm just panicking. Ugh. I hate this feeling.

This is my first pregnancy, so I need "pregnancy for extra stupid dummies". Does anyone have a copy i can borrow???

Re: i'm freaking out...

  • Don't feel too bad, hun, I'm in the same boat. It's my first pregnancy and I'm a naturally paranoid person and my first appointment in a week, but this is making my paranoia WORSE! All I've done is 4 HPTs and one at the doctor's office!
Our little Red Raider is here and another is on its way!

  • I didn't have an appointment with my first son (and only other pregnancy) until about 12 weeks.  If you aren't having problems I wouldn't worry.  If something happens and you don't know if it's good/bad just call the doctor office... that's what they're there for :)  It'll all be OK.

  • I wouldn't worry!!

The ONLY reason I have betas are because I had a m/c at 9 weeks last pregnancy, so they wanted to get some early blood work.

Last time, I never had any bloodwork. I did have an early u/s at 5w3d, but it was only b/c I ovulated super late so they thought I was more around 7 weeks (although I told them otherwise).

I'm sure if you call your dr. and tell them your concerned, they can do some b/w. Otherwise, I think it's fairly normal not to have it done.

  • Don't panic.  I don't have betas and my appt isn't until next Monday.

You POAS, you are indeed pg, betas are usually for those at risk for early m/c, high-risk pg, etc.  They don't do them for everyone.

Hopefully the next week goes by quickly and you'll go to the doctor and see that everything is fine.

  • LOL!! This is my second preganacy and I didn't know all of those crazy numbers for baby #1 and I don't know them for baby #2.  Don't make yourself nuts.

The only things to worry about are (1) is my baby healthy; (2) what not to eat, drink or smoke to keep your baby healthy.  The rest will all just fall into place

  • I think it's normal to feel that way.  I got my first BFP on Saturday and I still take a test every morning and will continue to at least through the week ( I have a stash of internet cheapie pregnancy tests since we've been trying for so long) You should be fine with the appointment you have scheduled already, at this point all they really would do is give you a blood test and tell you you're pregnant.  In a week and a half you may even be able to see a heart beat if you get an us. I know it's hard waiting.  My first appointment is on Oct 24th and the days just seem to go by so slow.
    Little one is here.
  • I never had any of the blood work done with my first. No need to worry.

  • thanks ladies. you've made me feel better. I'm lucky to be part of such an amazing board.

i've never experienced a time in my life where I'm counting each and every day. It's like something new is happening every day. I just kind of wish I could fast forward to know that everything will be ok, but then rewind to experience it all. Where can I buy peace of mind?

  • I am in your shoes.

I try not to get too anxious and I encourage you to do the same.

    My 1st appointment isn't until 10.31.11

My symptoms give me comfort in knowing that the baby is well.

My Doctor informed me to call them immediately if I begin to experience sharp pains, cramping, heavy spotting/bleeding.

I am faithful that as long as I do not experience any of this that the baby is growing and developing well.

    Prayer helps out as well.

  • The only reason I'm getting my betas is because I have a history of chemical pregnancies.  I think it's a good thing that you don't need to get your betas checked! Big Smile

  • I know exactly how you feel.  I too only have a BFP for a "confirmation" and don't have an appt til 10/27.  I started to have a few symptoms the past few days, but still feel worried and need to have that official yes from the MD/MW.
After my m/c at 6 weeks in may I'm definitely feeling the anxiety rise with each passing day, but I can say I feel the symptoms are much more than in my last one.  As I was told by my wonderful FNP sit back, take a breath and relax.  For me having a medical background only seems to make it worse.
Good luck to you on your waiting.  We're all here for you.

  • We just found out we were pregnant too!  We go to the doctor next Wednesday, and we think we're about 5 weeks and a few days along.

I think going to this appointment will help ease some of my paranoia... hopefully (fingers crossed, right?)  I'm going to continue to eat and exercise and try not to analyze anything else.

  • This is my second pregnancy and I still don't know what a Beta is.  Huh?

  • Not having betas is a GOOD thing. People who get early bloodwork and ultrasounds done generally have a history of m/cs. It's totally normal for your first appointment to be anywhere from 6 to 10 weeks along.

Your first appt will be at about 6 wks, judging by your ticker.

A lot of people have to wait until 8 weeks or more.

Be thankful you're going in for your first appt as early as you are, and be thankful you have not had a previous loss that would make your doctor want to do earlier labs or ultrasounds.

I understand that it's hard to be patient but try to focus on the positive. Every day with your baby is a gift, so try to enjoy it!

  • Last pregnancy, I didn't have an appt until 8 weeks, and that was with a nurse.  This one, I am seeing my OB at 9ish weeks.  There is no need for blood work until your first appointment unless your history makes you high risk.
DS born 8/8/09 and DD born 6/12/12.
  • Lucky you.  My first appt isn't until 10/31!  Trust me when I say that my paranoia is skyrocketing right now.  Every twinge makes me run to Google to see if it's ok.  Then when I don't feel a twinge, I worry about that.  lol

I'm so glad work keeps me busy most of the time.

BTW, I peed on 3 sticks, and I plan to pee on another one as a treat to myself every weekend between now and my appointment.

  • My first appt isn't until Nov. 4th and it's KILLING me, but I know it's because there's no reason to go in earlier.  I keep trying to tell myself that, haha!  The need to NOT know your beta numbers or go in earlier is a good sign, even if it does a number on your emotions!  My appointment isn't until about 8.5 weeks and that's just with a nurse to get history.  We won't go in for a heartbeat and U/S appointment until almost 12 weeks.

  • I'm getting my betas because I have a history of miscarriages. Most people with normal pregnancies or first time pregnancies do not get them. Totally normal. You POAS and got a positive, you have your appointment scheduled. You'll probably get some blood drawn at your first appointment, they'll ask you some history, pap smear, and send you on your way. Unless the pregnancy starts to get complicated for you with spotting or extremely heavy & painful cramping they will continue to consider you normal and treat you the same way they treat every patient.
