S/O candy post - Homemade items @ school policy

Does your area have no homemade foods at school policy?  Every school around here has it, my school started it when I was in high school, about 15yrs ago (I'm old).  I just assumed every school had this policy since it is standard here.  I actually thought it was a law, maybe state or county.  Basically everything brought into school for sharing has to be prepared in a state inspected and certified kitchen.

  • Yes, every daycare that I know of around here has the same policy.  It all must be store bought from a inspected/certified place.  We can't even bring in apple slices...we have to bring the apple for them to slice in their kitchen.

  • No homemade items allowed at our school. Everything we bring in has to have a label.

  • Our daycare center and private preschool don't allow homemade items.

The elementary school does allow homemade, though.

  • That sounds completely insane to me.  Neither NM or TX has policies like that.  I would find it sad if we couldn't make things for the kids.  Harmon loves preparing things for his class.  He stands on a stool and helps mix and pour the stuff.  Afterwards he helps me decorate.  I would miss that bonding.

  • No home made things in our school either.  I get it.  It is hard to keep kids that are young away from foods that could be an issue.  My nephew went into shock in daycare because they served chex mix one day. Something can get spilled, kids share and they are not that aware.  Once they get to grade school it changes and home made is fine.

  • I've never heard of this. DS1 (and DS2) has food allergies so I  make his school snacks on a daily basis and for special occasions.
  • My elementary school I work at has a no baked goods policy.  Everything has to have a label for the teacher/parents to check to make sure there are no allergens for particular students.

  • We are allowed to bring in homemade items, and we do not have a peanut ban either.

  • Everything store bought at both kids schools

  • Our private PS does not have this policy. But DS is the only kids in class with an allergy (milk). We keep extra dairy-free snacks especially for him at school if someone brings in a treat the teachers aren't sure of, but I like that he and I can bake treats for him to take to school (we just did cupcakes for his bday).
