Fisher-Price Rock n Play Sleeper?

Does anyone use the RNP for nighttime sleeping? DS will generally nap well in his mini pack n play during the day but at night, he fusses and cries. I think part of it might be gas-related, but he's always had trouble adjusting to a nighttime routine (sleeps very fitfully and for short periods, prefers to be held). He's only 2 weeks old and I know that this is a completely normal issue for newborns... but I'm desperate for sleep! I've read some great recommendations for the RnP and think it might be more cozy for DS than his pack n play. Does anyone have experience with it?

Some questions:

I've read that babies shouldn't sleep on an incline due to SIDS, but I can't find much information about the safety of the product. Any thoughts?

My LO likes rolling onto his side to sleep but it looks like his movement would be restricted in the RnP. Anyone have a side-sleeper who still enjoys the RnP?

Any other opinions/experiences - both positive and negative - would be a great help. Thanks!

  • We have one, LO slept in it every night up until a couple nights ago when I moved her over to her nursery. She hated the P&P and I think the incline really made a huge difference.

  • Love it! LO sleeps great in it.

Where did you hear that about SIDS? I've never heard that before (and I've done plenty of research on the subject). My LO is not a side sleeper, but I would think it would be difficult for him to move too much, especially if you strap him in.

  • My LO was in his for 8 weeks for both naps and nighttime.  The only reason I transitioned to his crib is b/c he is so long that he was outgrowing it.  We loved ours and Stephen slept great in it.

I haven't heard anything about a relationship between the RnP and SIDS.  The fabric on the sides is breathable and he can't really roll on his side in it at all.  It is like a snuggly little hammock.  The only thing I will say is that we have had a little bit of a difficult time transitioning him to his crib since now he doesn't seem to like to lay totally flat but we are working on it.  I highly recommend the RnP:)

  • We have it... DD generally would end up on her side if I let her but doesn't in the RNP. She likes the RNP but I still have to put her in it completely asleep (she is a difficult LO to get to sleep!).  The incline works great for us with her reflux.

Okay, I really wish I'd bought one of these. Everyone seems to love them! It seems silly to now - but maybe we'll have a third? Hmmm....

  • Love mine. DD was a side sleeper early on, but rebelled against sleeping flat after a couple weeks at home. She is getting too long for it, so I'm starting to transition her to her crib. I never heard about a link to SIDS. It's also great if you're BFing, 'cause baby can be right next to your bed. I was also delighted by how affordable it is compared to other bassinets and co-sleepers.

Exactly This - All of it.

  • DD sleeps in hers and loves it.

The only link I've found between sleeping on an incline and sids is using cushions to incline the baby as the  baby can smush against them or get stuck sideways and suffocate.

  • DS loves his!  He has been sleeping in it since we came home from the hospital and we haven't had any problems with it

  • Worth every penny.  Until we got ours at 5 wks, LO would only sleep in my bed or in my arms.

  • I just got one on Friday and we love it! I finally get to sleep in my bed instead of holding him in the recliner all night.

  • My LO has slept in the RNP every night since birth. We love it. I've never heard anything about it being linked to SIDS.

  • Yes, DD sleeps in it part of the night and in bed with me the other part. She likes it a lot and I think it was worth every penny. Both my kids LOATHED the PnP. I never heard a single thing about it as a risk for SIDS. Sleeping for a long period in a car seat or swing is a suffocation risk (which is NOT the same as SIDS) because the baby's head could slump too far forward, making their airway too small. But, the RnP is different...It's the only product like it (to my knowledge) that is approved for sleep.
