Thoughts on b/w results

On Monday, I found out I was pregnant.  My last cycle was 9/2/11, putting me at approximately 5.5 weeks.  My birth mother works for my ob/gyn and she got me in last night after they closed to run my first set of blood tests.  My first official visit isn't until Monday, but I did get my test results this morning.

 My Beta HCG is 966.5

Progesterone is 13.07.

I was in a hurry when I picked up the results and the doctor was with a patient so my bm quickly explained them.  They are giving my progesterone to take every day between now and Monday.

Any thoughts on if it is dangerously low right now?

Also, any thoughts on HCG levels?

Re: Thoughts on b/w results

  • Beta sounds fine, its hard to tell without a follow up to determine if its doubling correctly. But that is a high number! As far as the progesterone, anything over 10 is good from what i've read. If you are worried maybe call back and see if you can do a follow up before your appt Monday!

  • I know hcg by itself doesn't tell you much.  You would need to get another test in 48 hours to see if it's doubling.

The progesterone seems within range for 1st trimester based on what I have from my doctor.

Are you sure you didn't ovulate later than usual?

Entirely possible that I may just not be as far along as we thought. I honestly have never tracked my ovulation.  I have PCOS and because I knew it would be challenging to get pregnant, it has been a long time since we have prevented pregnancy.  Last month I finally starte talking about my options and my dr. said to start by having sex every other day from days12-20, in addition to blood work and ultrasounds.  We only had sex twice during that time last month because we have been so stressed.  If I got pregnant off the second time, I probably would be less than 5 weeks.

  • You HCG looks good for 5.5 weeks. It's on the very high side of normal for a 4 week pregnancy, so you are probably right as to when you conceived. One HCG number doesn't necessarily dictate what is a good viable pregnancy. You need to have them draw it again, normally in 48 hours from the first, and see how quickly the number increases. Your progesterone is on the low side of the normal range. Anything above 10 is considered normal, but it is good they are putting you on supplements. Doesn't hurt!
