Leesburg Animal Park/Pumpkinville - highly recommend

This weekend we went to the Leesburg Animal Park to see the animals and wander around their Pumpkinville.  It was $13/pp, kids under 2 free (so just DS got in free).  I just wanted to post here about it because it's so great for little kids (ages 0 - I don't know, maybe 8 or 10 yrs old).  It was manageable, not a zillion dollars to take our family of 5, and my kids - ages 4.5, 2.5 and 11 months could do almost every activity.  I've never been to a big place, like say Cox Farms, because I hear they're $$ and too massive and too crowded and better for older kids.  This was the opposite.  There weren't a lot of older kids - it's almost like they built this place for the little ones exclusively - yay!

I liked that lots of the activities were included in the $13 price (that's the weekend price - weekdays I think is $8 pp). All the cider you can drink, and all the apples you can eat - also a (small) pumpkin to take home.  The only thing we splurged on were the pony rides - $3 a kid for once around the track.

One downside was not a lot of food choices - only one vendor selling so-so food for lots o' $$.  So BYO.  Other downside, though it didn't bother me because we had a shade for DS on his carrier, much of this is in full sun - though there is good shade down by the pond.

My favorites were the slides and the hay ride and the "talking tubes."  The kids loved the hay ride, face painting, pony ride, and seeing camels for the first time.

Sorry I don't have time to go into more detail - there is a good review from Oct. 2010 on the our-kids.com.

Highly recommend!

  • I like that place too.  I always took my kindergarten classes their each year before I started teaching 1st grade.  The kids always had a blast feeding the animals, going on the hayride, and playing on the slides.

  • I like it too, IMO it's the smaller version of cox farms.

glad you had a good time!

  • I like it way better than cox farms, I don't think there is as much to see/do at cox as there is at pumpkinville.
