I need new Christmas ideas for 2nd boy

OK mom's with 2 boys.  I am having the hardest time for Wes this Christmas.  I know I am getting him some wooden thomas the train and some tracks.  I need some new ideas.  We have everything under the sun.  I am gutting the playroom out and selling at consignment tomorrow (crossing fingers).

I don't want something with a ton of pieces or a big huge item.

I am stuck.

Re: I need new Christmas ideas for 2nd boy

  • You and me both (on being stuck).  Since Ethan and Jack are close in age, Jack likes everything that Ethan likes so the plan is to buy each of them pretty much the same things.  So far, I've bought two Iron Man gloves, two Star Wars light sabers, and two of something else (can't think of it right now).  My mom has bought the boys the new Creaky Cranky crane to go with their Thomas train set.
I'm also planning on buying Jack his own radio/cd player for his room.  As for the main gifts, I still have no clue.  I hope someone else comes up with good ideas.

  • I'm getting everything the same, just a different color.  Colton only wants to play with Ridge's toys anyway and they fight over stuff.

Lots of Transformers, Legos, planes, books, etc.

Have no idea about Santa gifts though.  Will wait for the big sales.

  • Ugh, I struggle with this at every birthday and Christmas for Ethan.  This year they will probably get a lot of similar stuff that is meant to be shared (ie. will get them each a Lego set, each a DVD, maybe a new basketball goal for them both to use, etc).  Jack needs a new bigger bike though, and Ethan will get his hand-me-down, so I'm trying to think of at least one bigger item that is just for Ethan so he doesn't totally get the middle-child treatment.  I'm with you on not getting anything huge or with a ton of pieces...obviously Legos sound like the opposite of that, but they are easily stored in a container - I mean like I don't want anymore large, awkward Little People sets that just take up space.  Moms of two boys definitely need to have a post sharing ideas, there are a TON of us on his board!

  • We're having this issue too. The boys are so close in age that they play with the same things. I think we're going to get them a play kitchen as a gift together from Santa, then doing each a few small things from santa for their stocking. Then we'll get a gift or two from us to wrap under the tree. I have no clue what through.

  • Hoping to see some good ideas too! Starting last year I got the boys the same things (Reid only wants to play with what Grant does) but this year I'm really struggling with what to get them! We have almost all the Transformers, and CARS stuff and they are over trains...I'm finding that they are at an awkward age where they are growing out of the toddler stuff, but not quite into big boys toys...

  • Lauren, I got them at Target.

  • I hadn't even thought of this yet.  I was trying to think of what to get the third boy, hahahahahahaha.  but thank you for this post, didn't even think about getting two of things because same as you all they play with the same stuff.  and all they play with is cars (OBSESSED).  but these are some awesome ideas, thanks!  oh and we got a basketball hoop that grows with them for one of Riley's birthdays and it is still badass, so I def recommend that to everyone!

  • Yep, I agree, get two of items that get played with a lot.  For Noah, it's been really hard. He's over all the little boy toys and has been playing with all of the big boy toys we have.  I picked up some items on Target clearance last winter that he's getting (hot wheels, remote control lighting mcqueen) but he really plays with all of Benjamin's toys.  So, he's probably going to get some art stuff that he used at school that he really loved, he's getting a customized superhero cape and mask because B is getting that too.

He's getting a Mr. Potato Head because he really liked playing with the one we had but we were missing a bunch of the pieces to it so we got rid of it.

I'll probably get them each some more food for their play kitchen.  B likes to hoard all the food in his room so Noah can't play with it so they'll probably get a few duplicates of stuff we already have. For those of you that are unsure of a play kitchen for boys, I highly recommend it.  Hands down, one of the best things we've gotten them.

I'll also get some more trains for Noah and definitely some tracks for him because we sold them all with the train table that we sold prematurely last year.

Not sure what else I'm getting him.   Or B either for that matter.

Also ditto on the basketball goal - the boys both play with it daily.  So far, they're good at sharing so we don't need another one yet.
