TTC After a Loss

s/o your baby's gender...

Did you chose to find out your baby's gender?  Or if you didn't have that option, do you wish you were able to know?

I had a D&C with both losses and the tissue was sent for testing, so I know I could easily ask what the genders were if I wanted to know.  The thing is, I'm not sure I want to know.  I've thought about asking at my next appointment.  However, I feel in my heart the first was a girl and second a boy and feel like in a way that's enough for me.  It might sound weird, but part of me wants to keep it a surprise until the day we do finally get to meet our little ones.  Give us something to look forward to, if that makes any sense.

  • They asked us if we wanted to know or not, and I said yes.

  • I didn't have a choice, they just told me.  I thought beforehand that I'd like to know the gender, but yesterday when the nurse called, she simply stated "it was a genetically normal female with no chromosomal abnormalities."  She did not ask if I'd like to know.  It was all very...textbook.  There wasn't a whole lot of feeling or emotion on the other end of the phone so to speak.  I'm ok with the way the nurse handled it, because I'm certain that I would have wanted to know anyway had she asked, but I really hope she was just having an off day and doesn't do that with all calls because I'm sure some people don't want to know.  In my case, I specifically told them to call with the results, so she was just doing what I had asked I guess.  I just wish in retrospect that she could have been a little more compassionate about it.

  • I wish I knew the gender of the babies from my early losses. Having lost my twins later on and knowing the gender and being able to name them really helped in my grieving process.

  • I had a D&C a little over a week ago & i'm going in next week for my follow up. I can not decide If i want to know the gender & I'm nervous they'll just tell me with out asking if i want to now or not. In my heart & in my dreams I know it was a girl & I think that's enough for me.
