Calling 911 when lost in a corn maze is ok?

https://www.newsnet5.com/dpp/news/local_news/water_cooler/family-calls-911-after-they-cant-find-their-way-out-of-corn-maze

This family should be charged for every officer that came to assist them to get out of the maze.  They should pay for busying up the 911 line.  THey should have never went to a maze if they don't have enough common sense to find their way out.

  • I didn't read the story but is there not staff at these places to help those who are lost?

  • I agree 100%.  If they were really that lost, I'm sure there was a way to alert the maze staff (ie: call them instead).

  • I heard about this on the radio this morning.  They even played the audio of the 911 call. Crazy!

But, MW...it was dark and scary and they had a 3 month old baby with them!  They couldn't possibly just, you know, walk through the cornstalks in the direction of the lights that they could see.  Too complicated, too scary!  Surprise

  • she had a 3 week old baby with her.  you weren't a little unhinged post-partum?  hmmmm?

  • I don't think they should be charged. They should have called the non-emergency #, but I would assume the mom's emotions (at 3 weeks PP) were through the roof when she realized she was lost.

  • I think wanting to charge the family is a little extreme. It sounds like they couldn't find any help and panicked. Are they the sharpest tools in the shed? Probably not. But I don't put this in the same category as the moron who called 911 when his McDonald's order was wrong!

Yeah but I still had common sense.  And even if I didn't, my DH would have stopped me.

Yeah, calling 911 for being lost in a maze is not pp blame worthy. Isn't the point of a maze to get lost, no?

So, should people with anxiety or other medical conditions (like high blood pressure, which could, at some point in their lives cause a heart attack or stroke) not enter the maze as well?

I don't think the mom should have had a 3 week old baby at a corn maze for a host of other reasons, but I don't fault her for freaking out. PP emotions can make you crazy.

See I swore on the radio they said 3 months.  3 weeks is a bit different...totally could be still hormonal issues.

I never said she shouldn't be there. I said she shouldn't have called 911. Getting lost is the point of the maze.   Having a heart attack in a maze or stroke is different than getting lost.

  • As to the pp thing - the husband was there too.  I'm surprised he was also on board with calling 911.

I was never that fvcking stupid to get lost in a corn maze and CALL 911 to come get me out. Andplusalso, her husband was with her so it's not like it was some lady and her 3 week old alone.

    Exactly.

Hell I was the idiot who left the house without pants around that time.  I never called 911 for a BS reason.

This was my thought, unless she was having an epic freak out and he couldn't talk her out of it. Either way, they probably feel dumb now.

Please don't talk about The Shining.  I couldn't read the book because the movie freaked me out too much.

Ok, you have to read the book.  It's 10x better/scarier than the movie and in the book it's not a maze.  I won't tell you what it is but let's just say I have a long standing fear of shrubbery thanks to that book.

  • I was in a corn maze this weekend.   Wasted 45 mins in that thing.   But it was noon so no chance of getting lost in the dark, and I'm not a moron.

I took Vicki pumpkin picking & in a corn maze around that age. What's the big deal? She was in the Moby most of the time & I felt up to it.

Of course, I didn't get lost & call 911, either.

  • The maze had signs giving directions, plus if you're tired of walking around in circles just bulldoze your way through the walls, they're corn stalks...not bricks FFS.
  • And did they happen to mention that they were only about 25 ft into the maze?! Hahaha.

  • I've gotten lost in corn mazes several times. It freaks me out because there are always bees in there and I have a pathological fear of them.

But when I couldn't take anymore, I just pushed through the walls. It was not that difficult.

Kind of my reaction. But I was super paranoid and didn't take DD anywhere but the doc's office and my mom's for the first month or so, so my reaction may be skewed. (I know I'm paranoid and insane. It's not likely to get better.)

I love this.  It should be my slogan.

  • Like I said yesterday, in every corn maze I've been in, there are emergency exits everywhere. And kids and families and people everywhere. Just follow one of them! I guess hormones is a plausible theory, but I just can't imagine thinking that the only possible solution is calling 911.

I don't think they need to pay for the services or anything though, because she really did sound frightened. 25 feet into the maze. lol! I feel kinda bad for her. She must feel like an idiot today. hahaaaahaaaa
