if you have the Ikea easle and accessories...

can you tell me some pros/cons about it?

That's going to be DD's main Christmas present this year, so I'd like to get an idea of what I'll need to buy to make it more user-friendly (outside of the usual paper roll, paint brushes, etc).

Is this something a 3+ yr old would get a lot of use out of?

Does it easily fold away so that we can move it if need be?

Re: if you have the Ikea easle and accessories...

  • Layna just got it for her 3rd birthday.

Pros - it doesn't really take up much space.  We have it set up over against the wall and its not that big.  Its not heavy at all, Layna can drag it around to where she wants it.

We only use the chalk.  Layna and markers don't go together well.  And we forgot to grab the paper roll on our way out.  But I think the chalk alone gives it plenty of use.

It folds pretty easy and gets somewhat flat, easy enough to tuck away in the closet or under a bed.  We've never actually done that, though.  It always stays out.

    Cons - I can't think of any.

My friend spent like $80 on the Melissa & Doug one with all the accessories.  I can't imagine what that thing could do to make it worth $80 when our $15 Ikea model does the job just fine.

  • DD got it for her 2nd birthday and she loooves it.

There are only 2 cons we've noted:

    (1) there's no way to secure the paper, so either it's flapping around loose or you roll it up and you have to rethread it each time you want to draw on paper. Solution: we use a chip clip to clip the paper to the top of the easel so that it's secure and ready to be used whenever.

    (2) DD doesn't get the concept of dry-erase yet, so she colored on the dry-erase side with crayons because it looks like white paper. Solution: we just keep the dry-erase side to the wall so that she only uses the chalkboard or paper.

It's probably one of my favorite things that we've ever gotten her. And for $15, it seriously can't be beat!

    Dear Bump: You suck.

FYI: A Magic Eraser or glass/surface cleaner will clean it right up.

We don't have the IKEA easel, but DD got one for her birthday this year and she LOVES it.  We didn't get a paper roll - right now I'm using leftover brown packing paper that comes in our Amazon packages - but it is one of the more frequently used items.
