I went to a lab yesterday to complete my 3 hour glucose test (I failed the 1 hour test for gestational diabetes). I drank the 100 grams of sugar and waited patiently with my husband by my side. At the one hour mark, my blood was drawn and I told the lab technician that I was feeling nauseous. Less than 10 minutes later, out came all of the sickeningly sweet sugar drink into the trash can.
I hate super sugary things. I don't even like ice cream (I know, I know). Obviously I will do anything for my baby, so I will try this test again if need be, but I honestly do not think I could ever keep down that much sugar. It's just not how I'm wired and I think I will vomit every time.
I am going to my doctor this morning for a routine visit and to try and find an alternative means of determining whether I have gestational diabetes.
Will let you know what she says.
Re: Vomited at 3 hour glucose test - now what?
For the 3 hour, they usually draw blood 4 times, once before you have the drink, and then once an hour for 3 hours after you have the drink. So if she vomited before all the blood draws were done, they didn't get what they needed. The point of the 3 hour is to see how your body processes the specific amount of sugar at certain intervals.
This! I have been in the lab when another woman was retaking her 3 hour because she vomited right before the 3rd hour.
That stinks, sorry!
I am pretty sure you have to take it again or just assume you have gestational diabetes.
If it was me I would just take it again...
I did the same thing. Held it in. It was horrible!
