3rd Trimester

ridiculous weight gain in two weeks...

Ok, today I went in for my bi-weekly appt.   I am pretty overweight and when I got pregnant I lost about 20 lbs. in the first trimester.  I really haven't gained any of it back.  Well today when the nurse weighed me, I though I was crazy that I gained 16 lbs in two weeks.  I talked to my doctor about it and he weighed me again to make sure, and there it was a 16 lb weight gain in just two weeks.  I don't understand how that is possible... I am just in shock and worried... I don't have GD or anything, and I know my eating habits haven't been great recently.  I gave up pop before I got pregnant, but recently it has been my only craving, and I can't stop, but I still don't think that could cause me to gain that much weight... has this ever happened to anyone else, and I'm 30 weeks by the way.

Re: ridiculous weight gain in two weeks...

  • Yes, last week at my 36 week appointment I had gained 12 pounds since my 34 week appointment. I was devastated, because I was really happy that I had only gained 17 so far and I was on track with where I should be.

I hadn't changed a single thing about my daily habits, eating, etc.

The difference for me (I assume) is that at 34 weeks I wasn't swollen at all, and at 36 weeks I was really swollen. Unfortunately for me, I'm even more swollen than last week, so I don't look forward to seeing my gain from last week.

  • That happened when I was PG with DD...  to the tune of 80lbs. my final 3mo..

Check your thyroid level...  Mine went and it wasn't caught until DD was 3, almost 4yo and it probably could have been caught then...

  • I hadn't gained more than 5 lbs my entire pregnancy then at my appointment last week I found that in a 2 week time frame I had gained 14 lbs. I have GD so I've been watching what I've been eating and everything. The 2 appointments before that one I had actually lost a couple of lbs. I don't know what's going on. My GD doctor said it like it was a big deal but didn't say anything else about it. I see my OB tomorrow so we'll see if she has anything to say.
  • GD shouldn't cause mama weight gain, just baby weight gain.  I haven't gained a lb in the past two months.
