Placenta issues

Has anyone else been told that their placenta is too close to their cervix?  We had the a/s today and this came up. I guess it's 4cm from where it's supposed to be.  On the plus side I get a 3rd ultrasound in 8 weeks to check and see if it's repositioned properly. The doctors assured me that this is fairly common.  I'm not sure if I should be worried though.

On the happy note, we found out that we are team BLUE!!  I cannot wait to meet our son. Seeing him on the ultrasound was amazing today and all of his measurements look good.  I'm a happy momma!

  • Congrats on having a boy and I hope that your doc is right and it fixes itself!

  • Congrats on finding out your are going to have a son! Boys are so fun!

My placenta is also low (not sure how close to cervix). I was put on pelvic rest. Did your doctor mention that? No sex, no exercise, & for me- limit picking up DS.

  • since your placenta is not covering the cervix it's called a low-lying placenta and has a 90% chance of resolving.  as the ute grows the placenta pulls up higher, away from the cervix.

    congrats on being team blue!

  • Thanks!  I looked some of this up last night but most of it was about a fully covered cervix.  The doctor didn't put any restrictions on me yet. I'm hoping as my uterus shifts so will the placenta.

  • I was told the same thing at my appointment last week.  She said it only had to move up 2 cm and she was quite confident that it would move up on its own.  Good Luck!

BTW: I'm also on pelvic rest: No sex, no lifting more than 15-20 pounds, and no exercise.
