I was at costco today and I've been meaning to pick up some razors for awhile, but I just couldn't swallow paying 30 bucks just to shave my legs. lol. I've been trying to extend the life of the few I have left as long as I can. I try to keep an eye out for coupons and good sales, but even with that...I just can't stand spending the money on them! (Don't worry - I'll give in eventually before I get too hairy
)
what "necessity" do you hate spending money on?
Re: what do you hate spending money on?
I hate to spend money on fixing something that promptly breaks again.
(1) We had two matching fluorescent lamps in the living room with a really rare, funky shaped bulb. One of the bulbs burned out so I had to order a replacement online and pay big bucks for shipping. Upon replacing the bulb, DH discovered that it wasn't the bulb that had broken, it was the ballast. The lamp was DOA. After spending $20 on light bulbs, we spent $100 on two new lamps.
(2) Last year we had some repair work done on DH's car and he bought a new set of tires. About a month later he discovered massive rust underneath and some other expensive part was on the verge of dying, so we gave up and bought a new car. Luckily his new tires were the same size as my car so we were able to swap tires before getting rid of his car. (Although I could have gone another year or two without replacing my tires.)
Did you ever hear that if you dry off your razor blade after each use, you can extend the life to over a year? I saw it on Dr. Oz, but I have yet to try it.
My money grudge is on car repairs and postage stamps. Bills are bills and I expect them, but I detest the unforeseen costs of auto maintenance and repairs.
Postage stamps are one of those things that I have to always have on hand, but spending $8 on them makes me wonder why.I do this. I can not get a year from my razors by drying them off, but I can get a good 3-6 months.
I hate spending money on trash bags.
It seems like literally throwing away money.
Spirit, have I ever told you that I absolutely love reading your comments?
I had never thought about it this way, and now I always will.
I hate spending money on car maintenance and vet bills. I hate going in once a year and spending money for a vet to say "yes, looks good. bye."
I also never spend money on food at entertainment places, if I can help it. We eat beforehand, bring our own snacks, and bring our own candy into movies. Not that we've gone to a movie in the last 6 months...
Kleenex, toilet paper, trash bags, and anything else that just gets thrown away.
I stopped buying paper towels and disposable napkins for that exact reason. I've not looked back and have done just fine without them. In addition, I am using less and less ziploc bags. I try to buy new ziploc reusable containers to build up my stash so I will rarely use plastic bags anymore except for certain circumstances.
Well our washing machine decided to stop working today, so appliance repairs! As much as I'd LOVE a new washer and dryer, it's a fairly minor repair and I can't justify the cost of new ones.
I hate buying disposable diapers. I buy them from time to time if we're battling a rash and try to keep some on hand if I get behind on laundry. But we have to get Seventh Generation or the Whole Foods brand because they're the only ones that don't irritate DS's bottom, so they're expensive and just pile up in my trash. It's a good thing I have some now because I didn't get to finish diaper laundry after my washer broke! They're clean, but could really use a couple more rinses. I had to hang them to dry (at night, bah) because the washer fried the circuit and my dryer won't work either now
Eh, I never care about spending money on vet or car maintenance bills... what gets me is the stupid, little expenses. For instance, I seriously need a new can opener. Our doesn't cut when you spin the handle- I have to use it like a knife. But I absolutely refuse to buy a new can opener. Or, I really need a liquid measuring cup. I look at them every single time I go to Target, but can't bring myself to spend the $2.50 to get one.
I'm crazy.
Co pays at the doctor! Ours just went up from 19 to 24.00. Maybe that's not bad compared to others but I hate it. Our well baby visits don't have a co pay but the others do.
So if I take the kids to the dr to check up on something just to be safe and then the dr says they are fine and I have to pay 24.00 and they basically did nothing. Drives me nuts.
