Moms with toddlers - Where does baby nap

I kept Andrew downstairs with me during the day until he was 4 months or so. Baby has been napping in her swing (or the moby) in the den with us where Andrew is playing and being loud.

I'm wondering if this is too much for her and if I should put her down for naps in her bassinet in my room where it's quiet.

Do y'all keep your sleeping baby with you and your toddler during the day?

Re: Moms with toddlers - Where does baby nap

  • DD2 is only 3 weeks old, so she naps in her swing in the living room right now. I can keep an eye on her from the kitchen and living room then. She sleeps right through all of DD1's noise, so I think I will keep letting her nap near us until the noise starts disturbing her or when we start introducing the crib around 3-4 months, whichever comes first.

  • DS2 naps in his crib. As soon as he would sleep some where else besides in my arms I started trying to get him to sleep in his crib so he'd sleep good in there. Some days I'll get lucky and he'll nap 1 - 2 1/2 hours but other days he's up in 45 minutes and still tired. When that happens I'll let him sleep in his swing or carry him in my carrier.

  • For the first few weeks (months) it is fine to let the baby nap wherever.  Once she is more scheduled and sleeping more at night, it might be wise to move her to her normal sleeping place (crib, PNP, etc.)

Interestingly, the louder it is in my house, the better/longer DD #3 sleeps.  Today, I laid her next to me on the bed while the older two were getting dressed and I was doing their hair...a few minutes into the process, I looked over and realized she fell asleep.

  • If she sleeps okay amongst the noise, let her! It makes life SO much easier. My son was never bothered by noise...the tv, vacuum, dogs, etc... but my daughter is super sensitive to sound :( I put her to sleep in her room upstairs and my son and I hang out in the the family room downstairs.
  • DD naps all over the place. Usually, though, I try to take her to her room, in the crib. She stays out of the toddler's and cat's way, and I don't have to worry about DS "assaulting" her with his "delicate kisses and hugs".
