Hi ladies,
I'm making my registry now for my shower that is about a month away. I wonder if there's even a point of registering for clothes - people LOVE to buy baby clothes, and I'll probably get a ton anyway. Or am I shooting myself in the foot by not asking for them? What did you do on your registry?
Thanks,
Birdie
Re: Registering for clothes?
We have a ton of clothes already, so we just registered for a few things. You are right people love to buy clothes, so its probably pointless to register for specific items because they will just pick out what they want anyway, lol. But we did register for some generic items we knew we still needed and would use (side snap newborn tshirts, plain onesies, etc.), and also a few pairs of pants in larger sizes that we know we will need eventually, in the hope that people would pick up on at least the type of clothing items we still needed.
I don't think there is any harm in registering for clothes, just don't be disappointed if you don't get any of them.

IMHO, it's a total waste to register for clothing. The other reasons cited in this thread are good, but here's my main reason. If someone is looking on your registry, then I would rather them buy something that is a necessity, even if it's a bottle brush, or some wash cloths, rather than spend their money on clothing. In the end, if you have some onesies and a warm blanket, baby will be fine. But diapers are expensive! I'd rather someone get me a pack of those! Now, this baby girl I'm carrying has more clothing than she could ever hope to wear. On my Target registry I registered for one back of gowns, because I didn't have many of those. And that was the only clothing item I registered for...and I got it. And I had kind of talked it up to everyone about how grandma had gone overboard buying clothes...it wasn't a lie, and I don't know if it worked, but besides my niece who bought the gowns, only one other person bought ANY clothing...and it was 3 outfits from Carter's that were completely NMS. Took them back to Kohl's and got $40 in credit, and bought things that I actually needed.
I know clothes are cute and they have the "wow" factor, especially at a shower, but I just wouldn't do it.

Lots of variables to this. If you already know the gender and have announced that (especially if it's a girl), I would not bother. Most people love to shop for clothes.
We didn't know the gender, so at our shower, we received very few articles of clothing (I'm talking 5 outfits max). Of those, 90% were from our registry. Many guests get frustrated trying to pick out gender neutral attire and (I think) appreciated the ease of just getting it off the registry.
I also liked registering for clothing because we are trying to stick with all natural fibers and organic if possible. Just having a few items like that on a registry helps to indicate your preferences for those who want to know.
I had two registries. An online-only (which did have clothing and easy shopping) and Target (no clothing).
