do i really need a changing pad?

....if I'm not using a changing table? I plan to just the changer on the PnP, change in the crib with a waterproof pad under baby, or even the floor or couch. What do you plan to do?

I have a dresser that is high enough, but really wasn't planning on using it for changing. I just don't want a bunch of crap clogging up the house if it's not going to be used.

We have a changing pad. I never bother with the cover anymore so it's just the soft foam with the waterproof cover. It lives behind the couch till we need it, then I pull it out and throw it on the floor in the lounge. You DEFINITELY need something to change your LO on and while the cover is nice when they're tiny, you need a few as you end up washing them so much so plain is fine. Much easier to just wipe it clean.

I wouldnt' bother with a changing pad if you dont' plan on having a changing table. As long as you are comfortable changing on the floor or couch, you should be fine.

I keep a changing pad and don't use a changing table. I like to just be able to pull it out and change on it.

We have a changing pad, and to be honest the top of the dresser is still where I change DS most of the time. I ended up with a CS and there is no way I could have bent over to change DS on the floor.

When he was little he peed every time air hit his penis when I changed his diaper. I just got in the habit of changing him in his room. He was also pretty explosive some times, so if I changed him on the couch it would definitely need professional cleaning. On second thought...maybe I should have changed him on the couch, then I could get a new one! Stick out tongue He outgrew this though.

The PNP will work well up to a certain weight, and then you may be in the clear to change on the floor/couch. I guess you could always pick one up later if you feel you need it.

I got one for the dresser because that's what I plan on using at night/when we're upstairs. For only like $12 I figured it was worth it. I bought a travel changing pad that I plan on keeping downstairs

I would get one... using the pack in play is going to get old after a while, and do you really want to keep it up for possibly 2+ years until your baby is potty trained? It is fine and easy to change pee diapers on the floor, but with poop, it is a lot easier to be standing to do it, where you have more control over where the baby can move... they aren't that expensive to have just in case... or you can just buy one later. I never liked the height of the pnp changers, but I have a sensitive back.

Oh, and if you have a dog, that would not be an easy change on the floor or couch (our dog is always trying to get in on things when we do it on the floor)

I'm going to use a changing pad on a dresser in the baby's room. With a diaper pail (or at least a lidded wastebasket) right next to the dresser.

Mostly because I want the diapers to go immediately into something where my goat-dog cannot get them.

LOL, we always call our dog a goat too!! He loves trash.

Changing pad is one thing I consider a must have. We used ours till my daughter potty trained at 22 months.

We never had a changing table/changing pad. My brother works at a hospital, and gave us a box of chucks when we had DD. We used those on the floor/bed/couch/wherever when DD was little. Somewhere along the way we stopped putting anything down when we were at home. I use the travel pad when we're out in a public changing area, but other than that we tempt fate and her, and just wing it. We still have half the stash he gave us so we'll bust them out again with this LO, but I'm sure somewhere along the line we'll end up getting lazy and just not bothering anymore.

We have a PNP downstairs for the changes, and we do have a changing pad on top of the dresser. I also got a diaper caddy as a shower gift that comes with a little changing pad. I am planning on using that for the time that LO is in our room in the bassinet so I can feed and change and not get out of the bed.

We never used a changing pad with DD and don't plan to with LO either... What we did was we had a super absorbant pad (it's a flannel with a plastic between the layers) that we put under her when we changed her. Otherwise we had the folding ones with the wipe box for when we were out and about. We only had a couple accidents in the entire time and not enough to warrant owning a changing pad (the times I was out and about and used them they were a royal PITA because of the angle of approach for doing the changing)...
