We only have one grocery store in our area that carries a very limited supply of allergen free foods. I don't have a problem with heading to a bigger store (TJ, WF, etc) that's over an hour away but with 2 little ones (and no option to leave them) I'd rather have some ideas before I head out. Or would it be easier to just piece together stuff from what I can find locally?
Re: Where do you shop?
an hour away? yayks!
what are you avoiding? I think it all depends how much you're avoiding and what you are trying to buy.
i would first check out your local grocery stores and ask if they have a specialty section. My local stop and shop carries coconut yogurts / oatmeals / rice milk.. (the main stuff).. all in the gluten free isle (which has been expanding like crazy!)
Also, sometimes you can request your local shop to start carrying specific items and in most cases they do (especially if their suppliers have them).
I think it all depends on what you need to avoid. We are avoiding milk/soy/eggs/peanuts and there are only specific things that we need from a specialty store (almond butter, milk/soy free butter).. everything else we can pretty much get locally. But we're doing organic so i also buy his fruits / veggies and some other things at WF / TJ.. but it's not necessary.
