Success after IF

Good news/Bad news!

Good: Today they both napped in their own beds and it only took 20 minutes to get them both down! And this is only like the third time Boodle has napped in her own crib/room, versus the pack and play or RNP. Granted, Toodle slept for 25 minutes, Boodle 45, but it's something.

Bad: The tiny one is insistent on sleeping on her stomach. I've been flipping her to her back once she's soundly asleep for the last 2 days and don't know how long I'll have to do this but worry that eventually it will stop working or wake her up too much to work. And the overnight stretches kill me - every time I wake up and see her on her stomach my heart stops and I am scared to even reach out and touch her for fear she won't be breathing. I know, I know, conventional wisdom is that if they can flip themselves, it's fine, but she can't do stomach to back, only vice versa, she's not the greatest at tummy time and head/neck control and she is in PRIME SIDS danger zone - I just can't let her sleep on her stomach at this age/size, even if 99.99% of parents would and our pediatrician would say it's ok. Sigh. Hoping that at 4 months - or at least 6 - I will feel better about it. Four months is only a couple weeks off at least.

Re: Good news/Bad news!

  • YAY!  Good napping news over here today too!  We converted Izzy's bed to a toddler bed last week and today she fell asleep in it for the first time :)  I was SO proud of her and made a big deal about it so hopefully she will do it again.

And I don't blame you on your SIDS fear.  I was flipping Liam til about 5 months when it just was literally impossible to flip him without waking him up or him just flipping right back.

  • I had the flipping problem with #1 at 3 months.   It gave me a heart attack but she seemed to insist on sleeping on her tummy.    The fear lessened as she got older.   It's rough.

  • Do you have an angelcare monitor?  I'd invest in one to ease your worries.

    GL!

  • Have you thought of getting an AngelCare monitor?  For some reason I had/have a totally irrational fear of SIDS (like... really bad....) so I totally understand your anxiety.  The AngelCare made a WORLD of difference for me... I turn it on every night, every nap... I think I would strap it to him if I could.. ha ha...

It gave me SO MUCH peace of mind and might be worth it if you've got an early flipper.

  • Not sure how you feel about this, but have you tried putting her down on her side rather than her back? I had the same flipping problem with DS--he could roll to stomach really early, but not back to his back, and he insisted on sleeping on his stomach. But when I put him down on his side, he stayed like that. I know the rule is "back to sleep" but I felt OK about him being on his side at that age. Just a thought.

    Congratulations on the naps!

After 7 failed IUIs, IVF w/ ICSI worked!!

I am thankful every day for my miracle after infertility.

And thrilled to be pregnant again after FET!

  • We don't have an angelcare - partly because she rarely sleeps in the crib and I don't intend to move her to her own room full time at night for a VERY long time (like, 9 mos. old) and it doesn't work in the PnP. and partly because I've read a lot of complaints about it giving false alarms a lot.

Plus I know me and I don't think I'd trust it enough to alleviate my fears.

  • This won't address your concerns about a monitor not alleviating your fears but I use the Snuza Halo monitor with Kevin and that works anywhere that they are stationary (so not in a moving vehicle, stroller or swing).  Very few false alarms.  Definitely gives me peace of mind (and he was on an apnea monitor for two+ months at home)

    I understand... I still do some double-checks. :)

Try the side-sleeping, maybe?  my LO loves to be on his side even more than his tummy.. ?
