bedding

The time has come...I am going to transition all 3 little people into big beds when we move! (wishmeluck!) Question about bedding.....do you buy a quilt and a duvet?

Re: bedding

  • I just have quilts on the boys beds.  Jack's actually came with a duvet (I bought a whole brand-new PBK set off of eBay and it was included), but I don't have it on his bed because he gets hot.  So they have a quilt, thin blanket, and sheet, and they use however many layers they want.

  • i am so glad you asked this!!  I have been wondering the same thing.  I was thinking i would do exactly what I do for our bed.  Quilt only in the summer months and add the duvet when it gets cold. I am interested to see what everyone else does.

  • In the summer, Alec uses just a sheet and his lovey blanket--it's pretty big.

In the colder months (like now), he has a blanket, duvet filled with a down comforter.

Both DH and I each sleep with down comforters so my kids will probably do the same.

  • Bailey has a quilt - it's this one: https://www.potterybarnkids.com/products/junior-varsity-quilted-bedding/?pkey=rromboyjrv It's plenty heavy enough even for the winter when his room is freezing. Of course he just now is starting to sleep under it most of the night. He's a wild man in bed and sleeps all over his bed. In the winter I still put him in footed pjs b/c his room is like a freezer and the rest of the upstairs is hot.

  • Geneva doesn't use a top sheet. Just more to get tangled in and she would kick it to the bottom of the bed. I just let her use a lightweight comforter with a duvet cover on it. Got the comforter at Ikea. They have varying levels of weight for the comforters.

Ikea also has tons of neat duvet covers. I've also looked at The Company Store. They have super nice solid color duvet covers.

  • All 3 at once?!  Wow.  You are super mom.

Gavin has a twin size bed.  He does have a quilt but he rarely sleeps under it.  It always ends up pushed to the end in a heap.  He still uses his baby blankets- he has a couple that he really loves.  Oh and he likes for us to pile the pillows on top of him like a "fort" so that keeps him warm.  He moves all over the bed so there's not much point in having a real blanket.  The quilt that we have is part of the Star Wars bedding from PB.  So we really just have it on there for looks since he won't use it.

Pretty much this exactly for Brady.  We have a quilt from Land of Nod but it is mostly for looks because he only sleeps under his baby blankets for now... which means he wants it on him to fall asleep but by morning he has moved so much that he has nothing on top of him.  So, we rely on pj's to keep him warm.  :)

  • This is a great question.  When I was 8 we spent a few weeks skiing in Switzerland and stayed with a family there and they introduced me to the way I have slept ever since: just a flat sheet and a huge, comfy down comforter (i.e. no sheet/blanket, nothing tucked in).  I forced that on DH and he became an immediate convert.  I wonder what we will do with E.  Probably sheet/blanket tucked in so she doesn't fall out.  =)

  • Thanks everyone! I got quilts for the girls and still need to find something for the boy! I think I will go ahead and get solid color duvets for the winter. :) Wish us luck....I know I am crazy for doing all 3 at once....but gonna rollwith it!
