Heater vent & crib placement

We turned on the heat for the first time this morning and as I was going around the house opening vents I noticed little man's crib was right in front of the heater vent. (pic below)  This wasn't something I even considered as we were placing furniture this summer.

Is this safe?  Not safe?  Should I move it?  I'm not able to move it any farther down the wall it's currently on to get it away from the vent so my only option would be to move it to the opposite wall, which is fine.  Curious what you all think?

Re: Heater vent & crib placement

  • I'm not an expert on safety or anything, but if it were me, i'd probably go ahead and move it so the air could flow more easily. Especially if the opposite wall isn't an issue.

  • Looks like you have forced air heat?  If so, that position should be safe, in that it won't create a fire hazard.  I would want to angle the vent so that it's not blowing right into the crib, if possible and I would move the crib down a few inches, just to give the air more room to circulate.  Your crib placement could cut down on the effectiveness of the heater the way it is now.
  • Personally, I would move it since overheating is a SIDS risk.

  • I would probably move it, to the opposite wall, or you could always try to kitty-corner the crib, maybe that would help.

Enough said...consider it moved. Thank you for your help ladies.
  • We had the same issue, I did kitty corner it but still didn't want the heat blowing under the crib.  Theres a peice that you can buy at almost any hardware store that diverts the heat, its like a little dome and forces the air out the bottom of it. It sticks right to the vent with magnets.  I know it was under $5 and Im more comfortable now too.
