Babies: 6 - 9 Months

complete judgy mcjudgerson moment...

A relative of mine is pregnant after a few miscarriages and is due in February so she's like 21? 22? weeks along. According to Facebook, she was just put on bedrest for preterm labor to try and keep the baby in for at least six more weeks. The side-eye? She's totally making light of it. Like "hey looks like we'll be needing preemie clothes!!" and "yay we'll have a baby by Christmas!!".

Speaking as someone who had a 35 weeker (preemie, but late-term preemie) who spent two weeks in the NICU and had an apnea monitor for over six months - this just tears me up to see someone making light of it. She's looking at 30 weeks (at most), therefore likely at least a two month NICU stay. I hope that's just a Facebook front and she's not making light of having an early preemie in real life (she lives far, so I don't know).

STM due Feb. 2017!

Re: complete judgy mcjudgerson moment...

  • She might be so happy that they're having a baby after consecutive miscarriages that she doesn't realize what having a preemie actually means.

Maybe it's a shameless way to get more presents? Kind of a "oh, the baby's coming early so all of the baby clothes are too big and now we have to buy Christmas presents too. wink, wink"

Otherwise, people cope with stress in weird ways. She might just go overboard with the positivity to shelter herself from what she has going on. It's a self-preservation instinct that automatically kicks in when dealing with these types of situations.

  • Is she a total AW?  Is there any way she is exaggeration for attention?  I know a few girls like this that claimed they were on "bedrest" when they really weren't.  Or the ones that claim that their baby is measuring like 10lbs so they can complain about how miserable they are, and they pop out a 6lber.  That would make me mad also ( I have 35 weekers that spent 2 weeks in NICU too).  If it were me, I would pray and pray that the Dr's were wrong and I would make it passed what they expected.

  • Is it bad to try to make light of a scary situation?

Maybe they don't want people to overly worry about them. It probably is just a front for Facebook - that and as PP said, she is probably happy that she will have a baby after so many consecutive miscarriages.

  • Allisonb17 - Yeah, she's definitely a bit AW-y... she had three consecutive miscarriages but with each pregnancy, had it posted all over Facebook when she was only five weeks along then announced each m/c on Facebook. She also had surgery for endometriosis and posted a Facebook note with all the gory details. (Note: She's only 22ish?)

I do hope everything turns out alright with the pregnancy and the baby, and do hope she was just coming across wrong and not thinking that a NICU stay was puppies and rainbows.

Ugh!  Yeah, I'd be conflicted about judging normally because I make light of stuff that is really scary to me.  But I think she's just a clueless kitten.  I hope that she's able to make it close to term and doesn't have to get the full NICU treatment.  If she's only 21/22 weeks along - well, let's hope she's on bedrest a long time.

On a sidenote:  watch her have the baby before Christmas and breeze in and out of the NICU with just a bit of O2 needed and maybe a day or so under the billi lights.  Sorry, I'm judging and being bitter.
