I went to a ww meeting on Sat morning, weighed in and was told that a lady left crying right before the meeting because she was told pregnant women were not allowed at meetings. (I kept my mouth shut about my pregnancy) Last time I checked, ww was a healthy way of eating. I have never known it to be dangerous at all. They should have a 'pregnancy eating plan' if they're going to kick us out. I wanted to do this so that I would have accountability and not gain 60-65 lbs like I did with my 2 DD's. lol
Re: No weight watchers while pregnant:(?
Personally, I don't think WW would be good for pregnant ladies. It is a healthier way of living ,but it's designed for weight loss and maintenance. Pregnant ladies should gain some weight. How would you adjust your points to accomodate the needs of the LO?
If your business was getting people to drop weight and there was an opportunity for your "loyal customers" to gain weight so that they'd have to come back to you needing to drop more weight than they did when they were seeing you in the first place, added to the fact that they could argue that they aren't a lifestyle but a way to cut weight and when your PG you're suppose to gain weight, it just makes good business sense for them to get you to pack on as many pounds as possible so you come back PP beat down more than ever (hormones are still out of whack quite a while PP along with sleep deprivation being added into the mix) again to spend more money on their program.
Don't be discouraged. Take your discipline to eat healthy into your own hands, and stay physically active when the time comes that you can't hide the PG anymore. You can still follow the points plan while making sensible adjustments for the PG. Otherwise, ask your OB to schedule an appointment for you with a nutritionist or dietician when the time comes. Don't throw the baby out with the bathwater in terms of if what you're doing is working, stick with it, unless you're in a serious calorie deficite/starvation type diet, there's nothing to worry about. WW is not exactly a starvation diet, more like a help you properly proportion your meals type setup. You've got what you need to know, just not the buddy system, so be your own buddy - unless you know the number of the chick who spent a boatload of money and just got kicked out because she's preggers who probably would be happy as a clam to have someone going with her through the stages of PG and sticking with the diet.
I was very successful on WW a few years back.I hated the points system. Paired with my rigid type A personality, I became a points/calorie counting Nazi. It wasn't pretty. Although WW doesn't starve you, you are at a minimal calorie intake. It would probably work, as you mentioned, to use it as a framework for eating healthy while pregnant. I still use a lot of the things I learned from it without counting points, I've been able to keep off 45 of the 50lbs I lost. Maybe if you used the points system and added the additional 300 or so healthy calories the LO needs depending on where you are in your pregnancy?
I've found that despite eating normally and working out while pregnant, I'm still gaining more quickly than I'd like. In some respects, I feel as if things are beyond my control. I hope you find something that works well for you and baby. And, as the PP mentioned WW will definitely welcome you with open arms post baby. I don't, however, believe that their prohibiting pregnant women from participating is a part of their plan to take your money. I would like to believe, that as most doctors and RDs mention, that they endorse the idea that pregnancy is not the time to loose weight. I haven't used the system in years, but as a lifetime member, I may find myself back there after the LO is here. Good luck and stay healthy.
You are right! That's how they make their money I guess.
The new points plus eating plan is plenty of food, esp considering my baby is the size of an apple seed. I like the portion control but I will need to learn to be self-motivated. My last preg was almost 10 yrs ago, I think I freaked out about getting above 200 pounds again.
If you want something to help keep you accountable and the tracking aspect helps you. I suggest you look into myfitnesspal or loseit. They are great apps that help me either lose or maintain depending on the goal I'm trying to reach at the time. I understand WW main focus is weight loss but they also have a maintaining aspect so I'm shocked that they turned the other member away (but then I shouldn't be since it's all about the money...sigh)
Good luck.
