XP: how long do you think a ball pit will last...

I'm not thinking durability I'm thinking entertainment...I found a foam ball pit and I want one for Lorenzo's b-day party and for the playroom afterwards (like one you might find at an indoor play place) and I'm considering buying it. Its expensive...

I was going to build one out of PVC pipe and some other materials which would be cheaper but on the other hand to get one that is really durable makes more sense to me (especially since we have baby 2 coming and I'm pretty sure we'll have #3 not too far behind)...

so ladies with preschoolers- does your preschooler still like a ball pit? I know I loved a ball pit til I was like 8 (and I'm sure with boys- they will like it as teenagers...)

think its worth the investment?

  • We had an inflatable one that had about 300 balls in it, it was small but you sure need a lot of balls (hehe). It just bit the dust and I tossed it, but I think he could have cared less about the balls....he liked that it was a tent/hut. The balls were ALWAYS tossed out and all over the floor. I tried putting all those balls in another tent he has with a floor, but again he had more fun tossing them all out.

Does this pit come with all the balls? How big is it? Is it brand new? I liked that I could put this small one we had away, it was more fun for him when it wasn't out all the time.

It comes with some of the balls (like 230) It's 7x7 and it is brand new...

There is a smaller one- which is round and it too comes with some balls and its 36''

  • I guess it depends on how big your playroom is. I think that would be way too big, and be a pain to clean. Ours was the small ones with Cars on it....maybe 2x2? The 300 balls we had were just about right so you will need a lot more to make it fun.

    Do you have a link?

  • E does not seem overly interested in ball pits, so I am not much help.  I like to keep some of those things special, so that he can go in one when we go to the bouncey house place and when he visits me at work (we have one in our therapy room).  We have a small house, so no room for one anyway :)

  • That sounds pretty huge... and although it sounds like you're going for a quality one with taller sides, the balls end up ALL.OVER.THE.PLACE.  We got rid of our ballpit probably a year ago, and I still find those balls everywhere - under the couches, dresser, bed.. I mean all over the house.  I got so sick of the kids throwing the balls all over, I chopped it (it was inflatable) and put it in the garbage, and gave the leftover balls to Dar for her nephew :)
