I was talking to a friend about being outhippied by my mom
I mentioned CDing and she said "well, that's so trendy right now"--
and here I thought I was a rebel!
Is CDing trendy? We started b/c my mother was always a big advocate-- she CD me back when you needed pins and rubber pants. I realize there are a lot more options now, but I didn't realize it was mainstream!
Re: CDing Mamas-- apparently we are "trendy"
I'm not a CD momma, but I do sometimes feel like it appears to be the "trendy" thing to do. BUT, I think that's because some families chose to CD because they hear of others that do, celebrities, etc. I know a few people that made that decision purely by those standards.
I was really in to researching it and really leaning towards it, but I was having a hard time finding a DCP that allowed it.
I think the opposite. FF and Sposies were trendy. Now we are going back to the way things used to be. We tend to forget those option have only been around the past century. And when I say FF was trendy I mean for those who choose to do it and not by those who don't have any other option.
I have also used rags for my period too. Yes, rags. Now mama cloth is all in fashion.
Okay, that is weird. The woman who runs my local CD store is named Heather. And after I bought some Kissaluvs from her, I needed to get in touch with Kissaluvs customer service. The woman I talked to at Kissaluvs - also named Heather. Hmmm.
exactly this!
I also do think it is becoming trendy along with going organic, breastfeeding, etc. Funny, this was actually mentioned in my local news TV a few weeks ago, that being healthy and doing good for the environment is becoming a trendy thing to do that not everybody can afford, at least the organic eating part.
Crazy!
You always put things so well. I agree!
I will add to the weird. All of you CDing mamas got me to place an order yesterday so I can start CDing, and I'm also a Heather.
Yes I think it's trendy. Yes, I also think that some people chose to do it for the reason that it's more affordable and better for the environment, but there are those that do it because it's "cool" and the diapers are "cute". I say that because I know a certain family member that is obviously not doing it to save money as she has a huge stash and is constantly buying more...probably because she has admitted to "hating doing laundry." Who decides to CD when they hate doing laundry??
Also, if she is traveling, she uses sposies...so it's not for environmental reasons either.
More power to those of you that CD though! I know I couldn't hack it!!
maybe on TB. Not IRL here. I barely mention it because I get the eww faces and really do not feel like explaining.
ETA:Of course I do keep on buying more because I totally think they are cute but the whole appeal in the beginning was $ savings. Could we afford sposies? Sure but I cut corners wherever I can (I price compare EVERYTHING online before making purchases) and can't see spending so much on something I am throwing out rather than using the cute fun CD's. Yeah I shop a lot but that is partly because of my thriftyness with certain things.

lol I have a friend who cd's (so do i) and has over 40 diapers but does NOT cd at night, during day care or when they are running errands. That is a ton of diapers for someone who maybe goes through four or five a day. We still go through almost ten diapers a day here and I barely have 20... we need so many more to cut down on the wear and tear.
