Pregnant after a Loss

Did anyone get pregnant immediately after their loss?

Hi Ladies,

I'm from the TTCAL board.  I recently lost my twin sons at 22w 4d.  It was one month ago yesterday.  I'm curious if there is anyone who got pregnant right away after their loss, and how soon it was.

Thanks.

Re: Did anyone get pregnant immediately after their loss?

  • After my first loss it took just over a year. After my second, just over a month after AF returned.  I wasn't ready to start trying right away after my first.  After my second, we knew what the problem was and started as soon as the dr gave the ok.

  • First, I would ask your doctor when it is safe for you to get pregnant again.  I know that usually with a 2nd tri loss, your doctor will recommend that you wait at least 1-3 cycles, if not more, before trying to get pregnant again, in order to allow your body to heal after your loss (i.e. your uterus to return to normal size, your lining to regrow, etc.).

That being said, I had an early loss at about 6 weeks and my doctor said we could start trying right away.  I had a natural m/c on 7/15 and got a BFP on 8/29.  No AF in between.

I think it is likely that due to the fact that you had a late 2nd tri loss, your doctor would likely recommend that you not get pregnant right away.  I'm so sorry for your loss and best of luck to you in the future.

  • So sorry for your loss.  We lost our son at 22 weeks.  We found out we were pregnant exactly 4 months after I delievered him...which was also his EDD.  We were advised to wait 3 months before trying, so we did that, and then got busy.  Best luck to you on getting pregnant.  We are now due 4/15/11 which will be 11 days after Austin's 1yr anniversary.  We really feel that our little angel had something to do with us getting pregnant so soon.

  • We got pregnant the first cycle we tried, but waited our Dr's minimum waiting time as well as until we were both emotionally ready

  • My OB told me to wait until AF arrived and then we could TTC.  We got pregnant our first cycle TTC after AF, but we have been pregnant twice previously and both were our first cycles TTC.

  • I'm sorry for your loss. I'd definitely check with your OB to see when you can be cleared. They're the only ones who truly understand your health to help make those decisions. Two of my losses were at about 8 weeks and I was told to wait out one cycle. One was a chemical pregnancy and I was told we didn't have to wait.

It took us 10 months to get our first BFP, then lost it. I was expecting it to take just as long for the second. We got our 2nd BFP on our 2nd cycle of trying. Lost it. Got our 3rd BFP the first cycle trying. Lost it. Got our 3rd BFP on the first cycle trying again. So 3/3 of the last cycles we tried we got BFPs.  (3/4 of any cycles trying after our 1st loss)

I don't know why, because it took so long for the first one. My OB said she has heard of women doing IVF and then not needing to for subsequent pregnancies. I don't know if my body "learned" the right chemical pathways or what. Whatever it is I feel insanely blessed for.

    Good luck.

  • My loss was at 19w3d.  I got my BFP on our first month TTCAL.  It has been just over 3 months since my loss.

Our baby boy,Logan, was born still at 19w3d on 7/1/2011
Our 2nd baby boy, Mason, was born still at 20w3d on 1/31/2012

    ((BFP 7/29/13))  ((EDD 4/12/14))  It's BOY/GIRL twins!!!

  • Loss of twins at 23w, we took a few cycles to try on our own and at 8 months did fertility drugs again to get pregnant with Zachary.
  • For both of my losses, I was TTA until my first AF.  The first time it took a second cycle after that, and this most recent pg was on the first cycle of trying.  I think it depends a lot on both how well you chart/time things as well as how ready your body is, as well as how cooperative your body is.  Everyone is totally different, unfortunately.  Good luck, and I'm so sorry for the loss of your boys.  *HUGS*

  • So sorry for the loss of your twins.  I agree with the suggestions to get advice from your doctor about when to TTC again.

I've had 2 early miscarriages.  We got pregnant the first time we TTC, lost it, got pregnant again the first time TTCAL (after waiting for AF to show first), and lost that one too.  It took about 6 cycles for my 3rd BFP (after waiting for AF to show first).

  • I was pregnant for the very first time ever last Oct. I had m/c'ed in Nov.  I got pregnant again in late April, but m/c'ed again in late May.  I am now pregnant again (which happened in late August).  It seems as if I've been going about 4-5 months afterwards.  I had to have a D&C both times and I felt like my body had to adjust after the procedure.

  • I've waited one full cycle after each of my losses at the very least, and some more. My OB, told me to wait one because AF sheds all the bad lining in your ute. All of my losses were 1st trimester losses, so I would HIGHLY suggest listening to your doctor before conceiving again, they know what is best for you and your body far better than we do. I think later losses require a longer wait to get things back to normal, plus your body might need a little more since there were two babies in there.

  • I had an early loss and it was a natural m/c, so my situation was different than yours.  We had out loss confirmed June 21st, I got my period July 21st, then we got the BFP 3 weeks later.

  • I lost my son at 22 weeks and they didn't recommend getting pregnant for atleast 4 months. I got pregnant 6 months after. I don't think we were ready to try again right away. It took almost 2 years to concieve our son and amazingly, we concieved on the first time with this one.
