Mrs Mommy, is there any reason you suspect your husband might have sperm issues?
Schrute, most places do not allow the partner to go into the room, but some do. No lube, mouth, or anything though. Hands only.
There are rare occasions when he can't get it up (he would kill me if he knew I said that and he finishes very quickly. Other than that it just seems like a simple procedure that might give us insights to an issue that we could fix before waiting a year.

MH just got an order to get one done and get this... he doesn't have to go anywhere. He can make the deposit at home (they gave us a cup) and take it to the doctor's office within 30 minutes. Apparently this is their new standard procedure. He just has to make sure to drive with the cup between his legs on the way there so nothing, um, dies in transit. Not so sure how I'll feel about the accuracy of the results but DH was very relieved to be able to do it at home. We shall see. If AF arrives this week as expected, he'll be doing it then.

Mrs Mommy:
We have been thinking about having one done just to rull out any issues...is this something that has to wait till the 1 year mark or no?
Why are you so determined to get testing done? You're on cycle 3 (if I remember correctly from your previous posts)... and I think this is the third time that you've asked. Noone here is going to tell you to run in and start IF testings after 3 cycles... unless your OB/GP/RE or previous medical history suggests it. Impatience is not an IF issue. My husband went without too much argument. After all, he watched me go through the blood tests and the scans and the HSG (which was not pleasant....at all.) How could he resist going to do something where he just had to go make himself happy? His procedure does not hurt at all and is way LESS invasive than anything women have to go through if you need more testing. It's a commitment to each other to find out what is going on with both of you so you know what you are dealing with.

It may be because my insurance covers testing, but I don't know of any lab here that we can just walk in and ask for a test. There had to be a requisition from the doctor for all our testing, including DH's SA, which was done at an RE facility. Does your practice have a dedicated nurse you can leave a message with instead of a receptionist?

Seriously. I'd give anything to go back to 6 months ago and have my husband's confidence back. You're been trying THREE months. You're seriously starting to annoy me with the "we should get tested to 'rull' things out." How will that change anything if everything is fine? Will you then wait another cycle, get another hair up your impatient azz and go get an HSG? You only have a 20% chance with perfect timing. Let nature do it's thing for a little while before you go running off doing testing you more than likely (based on stats) need.
And don't site Phebesx as your reason to get an SA done just because she is. You have no idea of her circumstances or discussions with her doctor that led to that testing.

I did read the entire post. I still think you think you should get testing done and seem to think that Phebesx's situation - whatever it is - is a good reason to do so. That's my personal opinion.
Sometimes I really wish people would just not rush into testing because they're small children who want a toy rightnow. It's been three months. Chill the eff out.
I truly have no intentions of getting this procedure done anytime soon. However I do not see the harm in asking a few questions to find out more info.
You said you had been thinking about having it done to rule things out, citing a simple issue (that's really not an issue) as the basis for your "concern" and then asked if it was one of the things you needed to wait a year for. It reads as though you absolutely wanted someone to say "yes! You should totes have it done!"
Stop looking for reasons to be IF. It's not fun. Don't rush the testing. It's only been 3 months. In 7-8 more months, then start looking into these things to do a few months after that.
i carry your heart with me(i carry it in my heart)

Thank you I know he will. We talked this evening about it.. He says hes not excited about "jerkin it" at the office. My gyno wants him to go in for it... not bring it in from home. He knows I have been through a lot but hasn't seen to much first hand because he works usually when I can get appointments. I TOTALLY agree with you about the HSG... horrible! If he would have seen my reaction to that there would definitely not be a problem with him going! Lol

Yes ma'am you are correct...at one point when I first joined the board and learned of the procedure I thought hey why not.
However after talking with you all and learning that these things take time (even with perfect timing and all things aligned) and there is no reason to rush into something so irrational. And learning a bit about my DH's things that are really more common then I thought.
At this point we have no plans to get this done..or anything else for quite sometime.
Thanks to those who have helped us clear things up!

Your husband would need to either go with you to your OBGYN (where they can order a semen analysis) or he can see a urologist.
I didn't have a hard time getting DH to go. He was strangely excited to give his "sample." Until he got in the room and that's when he felt strange!

7DPO Progesterone: low. CD3 BW: normal, HSG: clear
DX: severe MFI (low all 3) and low T. Undergoing replacement therapy.
You have been trying for 3 months, there is NO reason for you to have an SA yet
I truly have no intentions of getting this procedure done anytime soon. However I do not see the harm in asking a few questions to find out more info.
Stop looking for reasons to be IF. It's not fun. Don't rush the testing. It's only been 3 months. In 7-8 more months, then start looking into these things to do a few months after that.

Wow... just caught up on this post. And yes, my situation has other factors. Thanks for the call-out MrsMommy. Yes, I've only been TTC since April 2011 but issues have surfaced that require b/w from me and an SA from DH.
Thanks for having my back, BP. Heart you

Thank you
I know he will. Lol
What do you mean?
As far as I know there is no dedicated nurse. Ill ask my dr tomorrow.
