NBR: wedding food

Sorry, I am in a food mood today, and the Thanksgiving/wedding post down there made me curious about what types of dishes you all served at your wedding? (or, if you are engaged, what do you plan on serving? Or if you're not planning on getting married, what's a fantasy wedding feast? haha).

We got married in New Orleans, so we had all of the "typical" South Louisiana dishes- jambalaya, etouffee, gumbo, raw oysters, oysters rockefeller, oysters bienville, shrimp creole, mini muffelatas- that's off the top of my head (and of course we didn't get to eat even half of that)...

What about you? Mmmmm!

  • I don't even remember the main dish.  I think it was some kind of chicken inside puff pastry (we had an afternoon wedding).  But the appetizers were out of this world!  Deli carving station, fresh pasta station, fresh salads and breads, plus hot passed appetizers.  DH and I were supposed to receive samples of everything in the bridal suite and the caterer forgot.  We've been married 7 years and I still haven't forgotten!  lol

  • We had a really simple mid afternoon wedding in the spring. So we just served deli sandwiches/wraps,  veggies & fruit w/ dips, cookies, candy and cake....and iced tea & lemonade....

If we had a more extravagent evening wedding, I am not sure what I would have chosen....maybe steaks or pasta....or both? Big Smile I really do like hte idea of a full turkey/ham and trimmings meal for something like that too though

Mmmm! And haha, that sounds like my husband- he never got to have a piece of his groom's cake, and they forgot to save any for us to have in our suite later in the evening- he is STILL annoyed by this, and brings it up every so often....

  • I love talking food nowadays! All that cajun food sounds delicious.

We got married in December and had a winter/Christmas theme wedding.  We planned the menu to be very hearty for a cold winter day.  Dessert is very important to me, so I wanted there to be a lot of it.  The venue offered a whole dessert buffet with lots of different cakes and pies in addition to our wedding cake.  It was a great way to end the meal and let everyone get up and start mingling around.

  • We had 3 options: chilean sea bass, filet mignon, or chicken. There were tons of appetizers and tables set up with trays. Everything was yummy and our families still talk about it 5 years later!

  • We had a buffet with spinach artichoke dip and crostininis, chicken satay, Greek salad, smoked salmon salad, beef and potato empanadas and fruits and cheeses. It was amazing.
i wish i could be joking but my dad is the music teacher at a church so he owuld be mad. we had sex, all the time how bad i know but we dont want to wait and he said GREAT OH KAY! and I was really feeling the wets? down there- too embarsed to say- but he acted like man.
  • We had three options

Fish - walleye (which is fairly popular up in Minnesota, pork and chicken.  I'd say about 50% of the people who came to our wedding ended up getting the fish.  I can't remember what the sides were, it was a sit down dinner.

  • I don't even remember.

I'm pretty sure there was lasagna and finger rolls and stuff. The finger rolls probably sounds tacky but I freekin LOVE finger rolls. It was a must have in my book!

I'm sure I had some other fancier stuff but I just remember the finger rolls hahaha

  • Today is actually my 3 year anniversary!  And our food was delicious!  We had a pig roast (we are from the south and the in-laws are pig farmers) mac and cheese, mashed potatoes, southern green beans, corn, and corn bread and rolls!  I wish I had a plate of that now!

  • Is it sad that I can't remember exactly what we had and we've been married 2 years and 3 months?!? LOL

I know I barely ate that night and although I chose the menu my mom went to the tasting because we got married in Greece and I am in Florida.

I have no clue what the appetizers were....

I remember we had a salad w/walnuts and strawberries and a yummy balsamic dressing, I think we had a mushroom ravioli w/cream sauce and then filet mignon w/vegetables and potato puree.

I can tell you DS's baptism menu that was like a wedding

crab cakes w/old bay mayo dip, pigs in a blanket and greek style meat balls w/tzatziki to dip

    bread basket (assorted yummy breads)

salad was field greens, beets, poached asparagus goat cheese and walnuts w/either a fig balsamic (yummy!) or sherry vinaigrette dressing

    choice of

filet mignon w/port wine, shallot, thyme demiglaze, truffled mashed potatoes, petite veggies in a bundle tied w/carrot curl and basil oil garnish on the plate (I am all about presentation and good food together)

herb roast chicken breast w/cracked mustard beurre blanc w/pearl couscous risotto, arugula and oven roast tomatoes,  roasted petite veggies

pan roast halibut w/fennel herb crust, parsnip potato puree, roasted petite veiggies and dress with a port wine beurre rouge (PS DD chose this vs the kids meal..choice of chicken fingers/french fries or mac-n-cheese/french fries and fruit cup)

He even had a signature drink...Captain K and it was blue (nautical theme)

The food was amazing!  People keep telling me to this day this was nicer than any wedding they had been to (food and decor)...of course nothing like our wedding in Greece :)

  • We had a small, (family only) destination wedding in Jamaica. I don't know what everyone had because we just ate dinner at a resturant. I know I had some of the best fish I've ever tasted though!

One of my good friends just got married and her food was amazing! Usually wedding food is just so-so but her's was awesome! My favorite dish was this fancy mac n' cheese. It was a pretty fancy wedding, so to see hearty mac n' cheese & corn bread was different--but yummy!

    Hors d'oeuvres:

    Sliders

Mini fried chicken / biscuit sandwiches

    Chicken Caesar Salad cold rolls

    Main:

Pork Tenderloin medallions on a bed of risotto with edemame and truffle oil

    Dessert:

Sticky Toffee Pudding / wedding cake

    Late-night snacks:

    Variety of mini-grilled cheeses

  • We got married in Maine and most of our guests were from out of town, so we played up the Maine foods: lots of lobster and seafood, chowder, blueberry martinis, mini whoopie pies as favors, etc.

I can't remember the actual items.  I know we had some carving stations, a made-to-order pasta station with loads of seafood to add...and a bunch of other stuff that has slipped my mind.

The passed hors d'oeurves were amazing.  Bacon wrapped scallops, lamp lollipops, dates stuffed with chorizo and wrapped in bacon, lobster crostini, shrimp and lobster cocktail, crab cakes, etc.

  • This making me sooo hungry!  We had simple appitizers--fruits, cheeses, and crab dip.  Dinner was flank steak with chimichurri, some kind of chicken, greek salad, mashed potatoes, green beans, and rolls.  Our cake was four tiers and each tier was a different flavor: Pumpkin spice, carrot cake, chocolate cake with mint buttercream, and red velvet.

  • Ah, this is a nice trip down memory lane. At our wedding we had a bunch of stuff during cocktail hour - I know there were a couple pasta stations, calamari, several passed hors douvres (sp?), cheese/veggies, and some other stuff I don't remember. Cocktail hours in NJ are over the top. I actually dropped a couple of the cocktail hour stations in our package because it was just ridiculous.

For dinner we had a salad with brie, walnuts, and raspberry vinagrette. Lemon sorbet. Then the main course was a choice between filet mignon with cabernet mashed potatoes (I remember loving those potatoes), or cedar-planked salmon, I forget the side dish for that. Also a vegetarian option, gnocchi I think. I didn't eat much at the wedding itself, but at our menu tasting the food was amazing.

Dessert was a trio - tres leches, some fruit tart thingy, and chocolate cake. Plus wedding cake of course, and my venue got their cakes from the Cake Boss bakery so a lot of people got a kick out of that.

    Oh... I'm hungry now.

  • We were on a tight budget and had our reception at an Italian restaurant that didn't charge a venue fee. It was very simple. We had bread, tossed salad, caprese salad, and a choice of Lasagna bolognese, Chicken marsala, and I think vegetable alfredo.

So true!  My husband's a Jersey boy, and he picked most of the cocktail hour food.  We've been to a couple of Jersey weddings this summer and ate ourselves silly!

  • We had a casual wedding party at a friends beach house. About 80 people I think. we got some local caterers to come over and did a surf n turf - sirloin strip steaks and shrimp on the grill. Potatoes, salad etc.

Our wedding cake was beautiful and had seashells and stuff on it, I think it was a chocolate layer, and a lemon layer, with the top layer fruitcake.

The food wasn't great to be honest, that's what you get for hiring cheap caterers haha! But everyone was tipsy on prosecco and keg beer and we had this crazy funny DJ... people said it was the best wedding ever.

Thanks!  I went to a "Fire & Ice" event there last December during the town's holiday festival and got to taste a bunch of them again, along with some more wintery selections (crab mac & cheese bites, lobster stew, ribs with a blueberry BBQ sauce).  OMG, so amazing!  It was a cool event with a huge bonfire, carved ice bars, live music, and wool blankets on the Adirondack chairs to stay warm.

there is a restaurant near me that makes THE BEST lobster bisque I have ever had (and I am one tough food critic!) Chops Lobster Bar (also in Atlanta..I am in Florida).  They also make a yummy lobster mac and cheese which normally I would love but right now it would be too greasy for me.  Ok...so I think I may just have to get some take out lobster bisque this week! LOL  They put a nice lump piece of lobster in the middle...they make it over 2 days...reduce with brandy...its amazing!  I have also been craving king crab legs....I need to get this fix soon! That and my turkey dinner! LOL

  • We got married mid-afternoon in March and had a large buffet. My husband's side of the family is Filipino and made all of the food. They often cook for 200+ people; I was amazed. We had lumpia (Filipino egg rolls), fried rice, pork satay, chicken adobo (chicken with soy sauce and vinegar), and many other things. We also had the usual veggie trays, etc. My mom is a cake decorator and made the wedding cake (almond with vanilla buttercream), grooms cake (red velvet), and a few types of cupcakes.

Unfortunately, my husband and I didn't really eat at the reception (other than a piece of cake during the cutting). My family made a plate for each of us to take to the hotel, but we forgot to turn the hotel refrigerator on...

  • We had a daytime wedding.  Our menu was this (ish, I don't quite remember everything):

Passed apps: buffalo tenders, spring rolls, something else

Stationary app: hummus and cheese plate

Salad: the inn's signature salad, w goat cheese, walnuts, and a vinaigrette.

Entrees: Chicken w maple sauce or filet mignon

Dessert: our cake (orange pound cake w strawberry filling and buttercream frosting) plus berries

We also had a soda bar the kids could just go up to (my husband's family is also Mormon so they weren't too keen on the open bar, lol).

    It was all soooo delicious.
