D.C. Area Babies

I know it's early but I need ideas for birthday/Christmas for a 2 year old

It is really early to be thinking about this, but I am due with DD2 on Dec 21 and DD1 turns two on Nov 18 so I have started thinking about birthday and Christmas presents. I'd like to get somethings done before I don't have the energy or desire to deal with it. My problem is, I have no idea what are good toys for a 2 year old. I also want things that will entertain her well into her two's if that makes sense. I think she is pretty well entertained for now, but once she gets a bit older, I want to be able to pull stuff out of the closet rather than have to go buy it. So my question is, what did you get your two year old birthday or Christmas? Did you get anything thinking it would be great and it wasn't?

Thanks for any ideas!

  • DD is 19 months.  The big things we're debating between are either a play kitchen or a big drawing table, kinda like this:

  • I'd go with arts and crafts supplies and toys that will facilitate imaginary play.  Play kitchen, box of dress up clothes, tea set, little people house/farm, etc.

This.  DD loves her easel, and loves playing with kitchen stuff.

A tricycle or outdoor play stuff would be good, too - but not for Christmas.  (not sure when the birthday is...)

  • DD loves her kitchen- plus all the food and grocery cart. Other big hits are the easel/desk combo and the ride on bee (rides all over our house).

  • DS turned 2 shortly after Christmas last year and he really enjoyed these food sets from Melissa & Doug:

He also loves puzzles, so you could get some that range in age from 2-3, so they'll challenge her more through the year.  He loves his wagon (which would be a good gift for both kids since you'll likely use it with #2 as well)

  • Play food - anything by Learning resources is a big hit in our house

Puzzles - melissa and doug seem to have the sturdiest and the faves in our house

Baby doll with bottles, stroller, diaper, crib, a sling etc to be just like you with the new baby - we got the Corolle Mon Premier baby doll and ets

Older books - with pages and not just board books.  The Llama Llama series is a fave in our house along with Tickle Monster, Foggy Foggy Forest, Little Quack series.

Dress up - post Halloween you may be able to get a good deal on costumes or just accessories like a cowboy or chef hat, wands etc.
