Anybody else...

I almost passed out at work.  I mean, full on, blackout experience.  I was typing an email and all of a sudden I felt the "blackness" coming on.  I stopped typing, turned from the computer and just started breathing slowly.  It also felt like my heart was beating so hard and then I felt somewhat cold.  A co-worker said it sounded like a panic attack, but I wasn't doing anything "scary" or anything emotional - just typing an email.  It took more than 5 mins for me to feel "normal" again.  Anybody else experience this?

Re: Anybody else...

  • I just had something similar happen in the shower. I had to get out and sit on the bathmat wrapped in my towel for a little while. I figured mine was related to the nasty cold that I have.

  • Nope that would freak me out and I would be on the phone with my doctor. Sorry but that sounds scary. Its normal to get light headed when your moving, but when your sitting still, I would give them a call just for safety sakes.

  • I sometimes begin to feel a little fuzzy headed when I haven't eaten recently ... maybe low blood sugar? Do you keep snacks on hand so you never have to go too long between meals?

This or when i'm dehydrated. Definitely talk to your doctor though.

  • I had something similar happen when pg with DD#2.  I actually did pass out in the shower -- felt right to the floor, DH had to slap me awake.  It was due to having a low blood pressure -- I got in the shower right after waking up without eating first, getting acclimated to being awake, etc.  I normally have lower blood pressure but pg has made it worse.  So I have to eat before I get the in shower and make sure not to jump up/get up too quickly.  Definitely make sure you're eating/drinking enough but I'd also check with your OB.

  • Thanks ladies!  I do have low blood pressure and I didn't even think of that.  I have been drinking tons of water, so I am pretty sure I am hydrated.  I know my sugar can get a little too low sometimes, so maybe that could be it, but I had eaten within the hour of this occuring (it was all protein though).  I do feel better, but will call my OB office just to mention it to them.

    thanks again!!

  • I have - just last week. I had finished cooking lunch and putting it on the table, when I felt 'off'. I thought maybe it subtle nausea or something. Then I suddenly was like "Um, I'm about to pass out" and kind of slumped into the cabinets and slid down to sit. I tried (Stick out tongue) to put my head between my knees until I felt normal. It was at least five minutes or so.

I have extremely low BP and I've wondered if it's that. Do you have any problems with your BP?

    Regardless, it's not just you.

I have had that happen to me several times. Sometimes I'm just cooking or taking a shower nothing to stressful or physically darning. I think mine has something to do with low blood sugar. I don't have gestational diabetes, but ever since I was about 13 I do get light headed. And ever since getting pregnant it has gotten worse. But I just lie down and eat and in a little while I feel better.
