I just started researching this, this morning so forgive me if I'm completely ignorant on this subject. DS has been very constipated for the last several weeks. He will go days without pooping and then starts tensing up and crying for what would appear to be no reason except for the fact I know he hasn't pooped recently. The last two poops he's had were initiated by a suppository. The only thing I can think of is that he was weaned from breastfeeding the middle of July and has increased his whole milk intake by quite in a bit in the last few months. From what I've read constipation can be a delayed symptom. I guess it would also make sense to note that I never had to eliminate dairy from my diet while breastfeeding. So my question is, does this sound like my son has developed a milk allergy? And if so, I'd like to test this theory by cutting out his milk for two weeks but I'm not sure what to give him instead. I've read almond milk and rice milk are possible options. Which is recommended? Thanks very much for your input. The 24 hour nurse line here is pretty useless and I can't get into the ped. right now.

Re: Possible Milk Allergy
i feel like cows milk is the cause of all evil.. it can cause ear infections, diaper rashes, allergies, all sorts of major stomach issues.
IMO The best thing to do is to eliminate it for a month, see if your child feels better and has better BM's. Start a food journal (and include his reactions) so that you can go back an analyze.
i personally don't think it's an allergy, but it can be a cause of his constipation. Many people aren't actually allergic to cows milk but their bodies can't handle them.
You can go with coconut milk, almond milk (make sure he doesn't have a nut allergy), rice milk, flax milk.. any work but you have to make sure it's fortified / enriched.
We use rice milk but the fat content isn't great so we often (daily) give him avocados and drown his food in olive oil. Coconut milk is much more fattier but my son hated it. I personally loooove almond milk but b/c DS has a peanut allergy i didn't want to give it to him in the beginning and now he's addicted to rice milk.
I would just avoid cows milk protein for a month and see how he does. Here is a great link to get you through avoiding milk (which also includes casein and whey) https://web.mit.edu/kevles/www/nomilk.html#badingredients
