Preschool Pictures- costumes

Last year Ethan's preschool had a great photographer who spent as long as he needed to with each child and got a really cute pictures, several poses even.  The background was nice and not anything crazy looking.  Although they were staged and I usually prefer more natural pictures I loved them.  They decided to try someone else this year and they put up the posters for it last week.  They brag about how you don't even have to dress your child because they are wearing costumes.  They show examples of children in things like a space suit holding a rocket ship.  Seriously??  I'm sorry to offend if any of you loves these but they are really tacky. :/  Since I work here and can intervene, I will be making sure that they take Ethan's picture without the costume.  Sucks because they usually give teachers a free package too.  There is no pre-ordering either so I am wondering how they decide the costume.  Let the kids pick?

Re: Preschool Pictures- costumes

  • Huh?  I'm confused... they bring in a bunch of costumes and dress your kid up?  Or is it you send your kids costume and they take pictures of them dressed up?  Either way, I agree w/ you- that's odd.  You know, I have been really impressed with Gavin's school pictures taken at daycare over the years.  Sure, they are posed but the grandparents eat them up!  I always have low expectations but honestly, we've only had 1 set turn out badly and that's b/c he was sick as a dog.  Please let us know how this turns out... I'm intrigued.

  • They did something similar this spring at Cadence and Trevor's school. Trevor was 3 months old, I had just gone back to work PT and was a scattered mess and had no pictures made of them together yet.

I appreciated that I did not have to buy outfits and drag them out somewhere to have pictures done. These costumes weren't cheesy though. The girls wore tutu's and pretty tank tops and the baby boys wore a onesie with the tie painted on and jeans.

I would definitely veto the space suit pictures as well :/

  • We had these last year at my son's school.  They are super tacky and cheesy, but my MIL loved them.  FYI they just seemed to randomly select costumes for the kids to wear.  At least they did regular photos at the beginning of the year and did these at the end.

They bring the costumes.  The examples on the poster look super cheese to the max.  We will see.  They are coming tomorrow.  If someone goes behind my back and takes a picture of Ethan in some sort of space suit I will post it.  :)  I can appreciate not having to deal with dressing your kid but from what I've seen I would rather have a picture of him in his everyday clothes than this.  lol

  • Here are ours. Maybe they have some more toned down costumes?

But if Ethan does end up in a space suit you sure had better post it..in a way it would be cute! :)

  • They aren't kidding on the space suit.  My kid was an astronaut!
  • Oh. brother......I'd die if I got school pics home and C were in a space suit.
