Did anyone actually take Lamaze classes? Did u think it was going to be as hard as it was giving birth? I thought I was ok with how to push and everything turns out I knew nothing...wish I woulda taken some sort of class
I took a natural birthing class and I was so glad I did. It helped me in the beginning stages of labor but everything went out the door after I had been at 5cm for a few hours and having contractions a minuet apart. I was so exhausted I just ended up screaming and exhausting myself even more. I really liked that they went over the entire birth process so when the nurses and midwife were talking to me I knew what they were talking about. I ended up using one of the breathing styles they showed us when I got dental work done last month too

I didn't. I got a lot of exposure to birthing during nursing school. I got to sit in on over a dozen births of all different kinds and 2 c-sections. It was great experience.
Other than my Epi's being a little off both of my labor/births were 8-9 hour complication free inductions with less than 20 minutes of actual pushing. So I didn't really use any technique or methods.
I'm thinking about going epidural free for my next birth and if I get really serious about it I will probably look up a natural birthing class to get some good breathing/relaxation techniques etc.

I should never have taken lamaze class when I was PG with DS. It was a waste of time & money for me, nothing went as planned, and I just used my own techniques with DD.
The birthing class we took was a joke. The lady was a complete tree-hugger. She was all peace signs and pain meds are the devil!! She actually pissed many people off. If you decided that you wanted pain meds she totally wrote you off. After the hospital tour many if not all the studends left.

We moved in October, so by the time I had a hosiptal picked out all of the birthing classes as well as the hospital tour were full through March. Yes, I could've taken one somewhere else, but I really didn't care to. I took a lot of sh!t from my family for it. Had I taken a class though, it would have been completely useless. I labored at home for about 45 mins in the bath tub and by the time we got to the hospital, I was 8cm and got an epi right away. "fvck, fvck, fvckity fvck", worked just fine as a coping method for the time it took the epi guy to come to my room.
Next time around I definitely plan on taking a tour, but will probably skip the classes again.
I did not take any classes, we even missed the hospital tour that was scheduled for the day after I gave birth, lol. Less is more for me, sometimes. I dont have any regrets, i got there at 130, slept from 2:30 until 630, and had her at 658. It was a fast birth, IMO- with not many questions/ options.I dont think I would have remembered anything I learned anyways, because I was so worked up.
We started taking a class and stopped after the second one. It was all info I already knew from books I'd read, and things I didn't agree with (like holding frozen water balloons. Totally NOT the same as a contraction). I thought it was a waste of my time, I could do much more productive things with 4 hours of my evening once a week. I do wish I'd have taken the tour, but it didn't end up being necessary because Simon never left my side, so there was no nursery or anything like that to find.

We didn't take a class. I learned from the bump that if I wanted a complication free birth, I should stay at home. And I did that until 2 hours after my water broke. I got to the hospital at 6cm and DD was born 2 hours later. I didn't want the pain meds, I just kept telling myself that the contractions are temporary and that they are not bad, and that helped me get through them. I didn't feel any pain while pushing really, although I screamed so loud when she was coming out, that DH thought I died... seriously.
I did not do Lamaze, but we did do Bradley classes. They were well worth it, as we wanted a low-intervention birth. I made it through 55 hours of labor with no meds, so all I learned about relaxing through the pain and saving my eneregy came in handy! At that point, some rare and extinuating circumstances made an epidural medically advisable, but even with intervention--the knowledge I had was great and DH was a well-prepared birth partner!
