xp: 4 month vaccines- HELP

Hi, my DD had her 4 month vaccines this morning and was extremely upset with all of it. She was practically hyperventilating at the Dr. office. When we got home, I nursed her and she took a nap. After she woke up she seemed to be in a better mood, but about an hour later she was crying inconsolably! She seems like her legs really hurt, but does not seem to have a temp. I gave her some tylenol, but she threw up everything in her stomach not much after that. She has now fallen back asleep. Should I give her more tylenol before the 4 hour window? Should I call the Dr.? She did not have this extreme reaction to the shots at 2 mos. HELP!

  • The fussiness sounds normal (lasted the entire day with my kids, especially at that age) but I never experienced vomiting, though that may have just been as a result of the crying.  I would call your dr. just to be on the safe side.  Also ask them about re-administering the Tylenol.  If I were you, I'd give a round of infant's ibuprofen - That way you don't have to worry about giving too much of the Tylenol but you get some pain reliever back into her system.

  • Ditto mamatojackson, the vomiting may have been due to crying so hard. I personally would hesitate to administer more medicine, and I would definitely call the doc just to be on the safe side (about the meds).

The fussiness sounds completely normal though. Also normal: sleeping a lot, eating a lot (comfort nursing). Give her extra TLC for a little while. :)

  • Thanks! She has been napping now for a while, so hopefully that will help. I called, but the nurse said not to redose and they do not rec ibuprofen for babies under 6 mos :( I will try a nice bath for her when she wakes up to try to reduce the pain and redose at 7. I just could not believe how upset she was over it all :(
