Babies: 6 - 9 Months

DC is trying to off my baby...

.... Or something. I went to pick him up today. I was about 3 hours early. When I walked in he was in his assigned crib with his blanket over his face. I asked them of they were trying to take him out or something and the teacher told me he did it himself. What I don't understand is why he'll do stuff like that at daycare and not at home. I worked in childcare for 4 years and I know sometimes kids are different at DC than they are at home, but I dont think that's one of his differences.

So you stand over him every second overnight and know that he has never pulled a blanket over his face for a few minutes? It never ceases to amaze me how people hold daycares to an inhumanly perfect standard.
Get off your high horse. I pay those bishes to watch my kid, not everyone else's.

Well, since he sleeps without a blanket because he's a living furnace, I do, in fact know he does not pull a blanket over his face. Also, I have worked in nurseries before. They had 6 kids to 2 teachers and 4 of them were asleep. I understand more when they have 10 babies to 2 teachers and its a hectic mess, but that was not the case today and they could have paid better attention. The middle of the blanket was also tucked around his shoulders. Thanks for trying though.

I see your problem... right at the bolded parts. He does it at daycare because they give him a blanket. He doesn't do it at home because you don't give him a blanket.

Ask the daycare to stop putting a blanket in his crib while he's napping.

    Problem solved.

  • My daughter sleeps with a blanket on her face and if you pull it off of her, she will wake up. She's not going to suffocate...it's her way of sleeping. Also, if he may be doing that there b/c it's louder or too bright than when he's home in his crib. I wouldn't be so quick to bash your daycare.

I'm surprised he's allowed to have a blanket while he sleeps at daycare.  I'm not allowed to put anything in the cribs but babies and nuks.
He is allowed. He may be pulling it over his head because of the noise. It scared me today because the sides were tucked in around him so he couldn't easily pull it off if he couldn't breathe. This daycare also has gotten written up because the teacher laid him on his tummy during a state inspection. For the past 2 weeks state has been there everyday when I have dropped him off and that's not a normal thing here in Ky.

If it's that big of a concern, then maybe you should move him to a different daycare.

This. I totally understand how hard it can be to find a different one, but if the state has been there that often they must be concerned and maybe you should be too.

  • Or maybe you should work things out to be a SAHM that way you don't have to worry about it.

My DS does as well. As soon as I move it he wakes. He is in a sleep sack but has a small blanket he holds on to and rubs on his face until he falls asleep.

  • If the State has been there everyday for 2 weeks then it's time to move.  That's a huge red flag.  Isn't it?

  • My DD won't go to sleep unless she has a blanket to pull over her face.  Blankets are magical in this house- no blankets in the crib = no sleep for anyone!  They have to be fluffy and fleece like, also.  Otherwise she doesn't like them.

I would be really worried about the state being there so much, though.

Yes. It's a huge red flag. I'm working on finding a new DC for him but DCs that take infants are rare around here. Most of them are K-1 and up. I'd love to be able to stay home with him but unfortunately that's a down side to being a single parent. I don't have any family that can take him while I'm working because they all work and I don't know any in-home centers that I can send him to. So, until I can find a better alternative, I'm stuck until hes a year old. I'm not so worried about it until then either. The nursery isn't the worst part of that place. There are some issues but they're easily resolved by speaking with the main teacher who has also become a friend of mine. She kind of intimidates the other teachers so if I tell her something she normally makes sure everyone else follows it. They're pretty scared of me too. I'm kind of a momma bear when I'm angry lol.
  • Oops lol used the wrong log in. It's not an AE.. I just decided against this name but got my log in info mixed up.

This exactly.  At C's school, I have specific written instructions not to give her a blanket.  Every time I've walked in when she is napping, guess what?  No blanket.  If the center doesn't do as you have specifically instructed, then you can complain.
