Anyone contemplating RCS vs VBAC?

I have no idea if I'm eligible to attempt a VBAC, and I'm not even sure if I want to. According to my MW, they'll "extensively review my file to see if its a possibility," I'm almost scared to know the answer. Any other 2nd+ time moms in the same boat?

Me too! I don't know if I will be eligible for a VBAC either.. I am not looking fwd to the recovery for a RCS especially with a 3yr old. I would also rather the baby have a chance to decide when he/she is ready to come out than have a date set. My previous delivery I was induced because I had pre-e then my sons heartrate dropped so I had an e-csection. I at least want to see if I would be able to try for a VBAC but even if I were not sure if it's what I want to do... I will be anxious to hear what you decide on!

I was told at my 6wk pp check up that I was not a good candidate for a VBAC, but I am not 100% convinced.

Long story short- I was induced, progressed extremely slowly (over 40 hours) but finally got to 10 cm, pushed 2.5 hours during which I never made it to 0 station even. DD was face up.

During the c-section I over heard one of the attending nurses say "oh my this little girl tried to push this out?!" My DD wasn't big= 7lbs 7oz. My doctor pretty much said that my pelvic bones are too small and slightly abnormally shaped which would make it nearly impossible to birth a normal sized baby naturally.

I half resigned myself to knowing that I will most likely need a RCS, but websites like ICAN give me hope that I can VBAC. It is definitely something DH and I will be researching over the next few months!

I ended up with an emergency c/s after 18hrs of labor. I was stuck at 9 and DS couldn't descend, then he and I both started going into distress. We'll see what they say, but I won't know for a few weeks at least. I know either way, I'll be delivering at the hospital. No birthing centers for this girl!

I am in the same boat. I am going next monday to a new practice/MW with my medical records to see if I am a candidate. I am REALLY hoping that I will have the chance to try for a VBAC. I am ok with either outcome I just want to be able to try.

I'm glad you said something. I have been contemplating this for the last 2 1/2 years. I mentioned something at my last pap about it and my OB sounded very negative about a VBAC, but i've done a ton of research and know the risks. Also my OB will not do them because of the small hospital she delivers at so I would have to switch OB's anyways if I want one. My initial thought is to get a copy of my records from my first pregnancy and take them to an OB that does VBAC's and get an opinion on whether i'm a good candidate or not before I make my decision. If that one says no then i'm not taking any chances and i'll (reluctantly) have a RCS.

This something that weighs heavily on my mind. I ended up with an emergency c/s b/c DS got stuck and I kept fading in and out of consciousness. I have no idea what I want to do.

I'd love to attempt a VBAC, but then again the idea of a scheduled c/s and being awake during it would be a whole different experience than I had with my first c/s.

I don't know. I'll have to discuss it when I go see my doc closer to 10-12 wks.

my sil had a VBAC and had to use a Dr because the mw said they wouldn't do because of the risk. She did have a VBAC and it went perfectly and is getting ready to do it again next week. Good luck!

Yes, I'm not sure if I'm eligible either. I went to a MW the first time around and now have a new doctor, so I am going to talk to her about it at my first appointment.

I am planning on attempting VBAC. My doctor said I am a good candidate because my c-section was not an emergency, in other worders, it was not that I was unable to deliver vaginally. I had scheduled c-section due to breech presentation. He said we will continue to discuss as pregnancy progresses. I am ok either way. My recovery from the first one wasn't that bad although I am sure it will be harder with a three year old this time around.

RCS. I had a very traumatic L&D experience and bad c-section because of it. I refuse to go through that again.

I'm going to go to a new practice for my 1st appt. to see if they will think I'm a candidate for VBAC, but I'm trying not to get my hopes up. My labor with DD was 40+ hours, no medication for the first 37, and I only ever got to 3.5 cms. But, they weren't sure it didn't have something to do with her tiny 10th percentile head not pushing down enough to aid the dialation, so we will see.
