Congested Breathing?

Today at brunch MIL pointed out that she could feel DD 'weezing' while she was holding her. I felt it and sure enough it was pretty strong. DH put his ear to her back and said it sounded like a loud rattle.

She has no fever, no cough, no runny nose, You can't hear it when holding her, and she isn't acting weird. I called the pedi just incase and DH has to bring her in tomorrow.

Anyone else have this happen? What did it end up being?

Thanks Ladies!

Re: Congested Breathing?

  • This happened to Abby. Try running a hot shower and bringing her in the bathroom. Or if you have a humidifier, that would do the same thing.

When Abby had it, it turned out to be bronchiolitis. It seems really scary... she was like that for 3 days before we brought her to the doc. When we went to the doc, they sent us to the hospital to have her on breathing treatments to open her airways for a few hours as she had low oxygen from being so congested. We were there for about 8 hours, and they only sent us because they didn't have the medicine needed to treat her at the docs office. They gave us a puffer for her to use for a few days after and then it just went away. We haven't seen anything since.

Good luck and I hope your LO feels better soon!

  • I hope it's nothing for miss K.  Glad you are getting her checked out; with her preemie lungs, it's a good thing to do!

  • That just happened to my son last week.  He had wheezing and congestion but otherwise he appeared fine.  No fever etc..  I took him to the dr and they gave him a nebulizer treatment.  It definitely stopped the wheezing.  I had to give him steroids for 3 days and I am still using an inhaler on him.  The dr said it was a virus.  I may take him back to see the dr for a possible chest xray though.  He still sounds pretty congested and gets occasional wheezing and it's been almost a week.

    Hope she's ok!
