Ferber nap question

We are trying to help our LO take longer naps as well as go down for naps by putting himself to sleep.

If he wakes up after 30 mins of napping, do I restart the 5 min, 10 min, check -in cycle at the point he begins to cry?  Or when he begins to fuss?  (He starts with chatting.) Do check-ins just arouse him more?

Thanks!

Re: Ferber nap question

  • When he wakes up, does he cry?  Sometimes Isaac wakes up fussing.  I used to run in and rescue him immediately, but now if I wait it out 2-3 minutes, he goes right back to sleep for another hour.  We live by the indication of him putting his head up - if he has his head up and is looking around, he's awake.  If he is just whining out, we let him be.  Thank God for the video monitor!

  • I'd say if he wakes up chatting, he's awake. He probably starts fussing bc he's bored; whenever my LO wakes up chatting, I get him. If he wakes up crying and it's been less than an hour I give him a few minutes to work it out. Some babies don't need long naps.
