Pre-School and Daycare

Preschool transportation (posted on parenting)

My DD goes to an in-home daycare and next year she will be ready for preschool (she will be 3 1/2 when preschool starts).

Right now, the options for preschool are Mon/Wed for 2 hours, or Tues/Thurs for 2 hours.

The daycare lady's two grandkids go to the same school where the preschool is. This year, she's been driving them all to school in the morning (her two grandkids + my DD + one other little boy she watches) and picking up her granddaughter when preschool is over. (the other grandchild is picked up by his dad after school, he's in 1st grade all day).

I don't work on Tues/Thurs, but I'm torn on what days to send DD to preschool. I would prefer Mon/Wed (days that I do work and she has been in daycare all day) because we use Tues/Thurs for dance class, swimming, etc. I like the schedule we have right now.

Would it be too much to ask the daycare lady to do the preschool drop off/pick up routine with my daughter?

  • You can always ask, I just wouldn't expect a yes.  I guess it would depend on if she has other kids she is watching at that same time, how you would do compensation, etc.

I'd work hard at finding a way to make your work days work out for her pre-school.

Bummer the kids are not the same age or it would be a no brainer since she's already doing drop off and pick up for another child.

I'd certainly ask her but I'd also be prepared with some kind of compensation game plan for her.  You're cutting out part of her pay if she's not watching the child for those 2 hours?  Or you pay her the same and she gets 2 hours without your daughter paid?  Or you pay her a flat fee for doing the drop off/pick up that's not quite her hourly wage for the 2 hours?

Plenty of in home providers realize that they either need to try to accommodate this kind of thing or they loose those kids.  If it's easy for them to recruit replacement kiddos then they choose not to do it but many of them do provide this service for kids this age.

Our IF journey: 1 m/c, 1 IVF with only 3 eggs retrieved yielding Dylan and a lost twin, 1 shocker unmedicated BFP resulting in Jace, 3 more unmedicated pregnancies ending in more losses.
Total score: 6 pregnancies, 5 losses, 2 amazing blessings that I'm thankful for every single day.
