Baby Names

Dory

I know someone who's baby girl has this name.  I can't get past the "goofy blue fish" association.

WDYT?

  • I knew a girl in high school with this name, so it's just another name for me.  She spelled it Dori though.

  • We had a wonderful NICU nurse named Dory, so for me, it has sentimental value. When I first met her all I could think of was Finding Nemo (she was clearly born before it came out). Even when associated with the movie, I think it's a cute name. I liked the character, she made me laugh.

  • "Es kah pay.  Hey!  It's spelled just like escape!"  I named my Ford Escape after her because of this line.

And yes.  Dory for a fishes name is fine.  Not for a little girl and now she will hear all the Finding Nemo quotes all her life.  What are some parents thinking?

  • Finding Nemo was my first thought.  It could be cute as a nickname though.

  • It's kind of cute as a NN for Doris. But Dora would have been much better.

  • When I taugh Pre-K I had a little girl in my class named Dory. She was named after her grandma on her fathers side. It's of Greek origin. I'm a sucker for family names.

  • I immediately thought of Dory Funk and Dory Funk, Jr., so I associate Dory with males...But... I'm probably the only one.

I forgot about Finding Nemo until I started reading the responses!
