Eliminating Dairy

Hi everyone, yesterday my 2 month old son's pediatrician decided that she thinks he has a milk protein sensitivity and suggested I cut all dairy our of my diet. My DS has been incredibly fussy and gassy. He also pulls away from bottles and the breast screaming while eating. The scariest thing was when I gave him a bottle of regular formula and he got a burn on his neck where the formula dribbled even though I wiped it away after he was done eating.

The pedi said that it could take up to 3 weeks to see any big changes so I'm not expecting anything until then. However, for those of you who eliminated dairy, how long did it take for you to see any changes in your LO?

TIA

  • Things got better after a week and then really improved after 2 weeks. Good luck with the change! It's an adjustment at first but you can do it!

Thank you for the encouragement! It has definitely been interesting the last two days. I have to remember to read all of the labels. We made hamburgers and salad for dinner and our normal brand of roll is made with dairy. I'm glad I checked!

  • It took us 3 weeks to a month for DD's diapers to totally clear (her only symptom was blood in her stool).  It was off and on for a while, which was very frustrating for me.  Hang in there - it should eventually get better for your LO!

I remember my son playing with a tube of 1/2 and 1/2 at a restaurant and it spilled on his skin and he imminently got blisters all over that area..  he was diagnosed with a milk allergy shortly after (as one of his 5 allergies).

Good luck on the diet and feel free to ask any dairy/soy free ideas. we got plenty! :)  We're milk and soy free here and it's amazing at how many options there are!!! (even yummy yogurts!)
