Food Allergy

High fat dairy free snack/food ideas.

We just started my youngest on a dairy free diet since we believe that she has a slight dairy intollerance.  Since we started whole cows milk her ezcema has gotten out of control and she's had horrible poopy diapers.  I chalked it up teething and the dry weather but I'm now putting two and two together.

Since she's not even a year, she still needs the fat that the WCM would give her.  Right now she's on 1/2 formula, 1/2 almond milk.  The fat content of almond milk is less than 1/3 of WCM.  What else can I give her to help her get plenty of fat in her diet?

I've already given her scrambled eggs (which she loves) and we tried peanut butter the other day (got the ok from her pedi).

  • You can add olive oil to whatever you can and introduce avacado if you haven't already.

  • Try coconut milk.  It's fattier than almond milk and now it comes in cartons (Silk and SoDelicious brand).  You can get coconut milk kefir and it's super easy as a sub for baking.  Condensed coconut milk is super high in fat- we mix that with Rice milk for our son.  I also use it sometimes for baking/cooking but the condensed coconut milk gives a definate coconut flavor and is really thick (like heavy cream) so it can't be used in all of my recipes.

  • was she tested for nuts?  i'm surprised you were told to give her almond milk with nuts being a big allergen.   But glad she's not reacting to it since it's super delish! and i cringed that you were given the ok for peanut butter before she's one -but probably b/c my son has such a severe allergy to peanuts and if that was me, it would have been a totally different result.

My son is on rice milk and he has fatty foods.. Olive oil on almost everything and he eats 1/2 to 1 whole avocado a day.. which has amazing fats.  If she eats avocados than that's awesome!
