XP: Transitioning out of the miracle blanket...?

Also posted on 0-3 board...

DS sleeps well with his mb (9-10 hours)...however, it's been loose some mornings no matter how snug i have it at bedtime.  One morning he even had both arms out with the mb loosely wrapped around him...this all scares me with having loose blankets (especially around his neck and face.)

I tried to completely go without the mb one night and use a sleep sack.  DS fought me for over 30 mins when he normally doesn't take that long to go to bed with the mb.  I gave up and put the mb on him and he was asleep in less than 5 mins.

I can't go to a swaddle blanket and leave arms out because he kicks alot (hence needing the mb)...can I use the mb and transition with one arm out, then eventually both arms out, then completely without it?

How did you transition out of the mb?  TIA!

  • I use the swaddle strap and love it. No extra blanket or material to worry about and LO sleeps well.

  • I did what you suggested:  do one arm out for a few days, then both, and so on.  Eventually your LO will roll a lot, so it is better to transition into not using it sooner, rather than going cold turkey without it when you have to.

  • We were using the escape proof swaddle with a swaddleme. Similar to a MB. I just went cold turkey to a peke moe(like a sleep sack). We used Ferberethid that night, took 30 min and he was out. He woke up 3 more times that night and it was never more than 30 min before he was asleep again. The next night he was put after 3 minutes and never woke crying. And the night after he woke once and was asleep in 10. I thought it was going to be so bad, and it wasn't. I am glad we waited till a weekend, at least that way I knew DH could help if it hadn't gone as well. GL

  • We were also using the SwaddleMe swaddles for our twins and they loved them, but they were starting to roll over in them to their bellies in the middle of the night and that made me a bit nervous, so I decided to starting "weaning them" last night.  I just left out their arms and swaddled their lower bodies and one of the boys had no problem and one fussed/fought me a little.  So for him, I put my hands over his hands until he fell asleep and then he was fine, he was just starting himself awake everytime his hands moved.  Went much better than I expected, tonight I may just try the sleep sacks! Good luck!

  • We went through a  ton of trouble trying to break the swaddle.  We got a magic sleep suit and never looked back!!!  I would highly reccomend it!!

  • My lo only used the Miracle Blanket.  One night, I put him in pjs and a sleepsack at about 3 months.  He did great, and I was shocked!

  • The Zipadeezip was the only thing that did the trick when it came to getting my little girl to sleep without her miracle blanket!  My friend told me about zipadeezip.com because she had the same problem with her little boy.  The zipadeezip worked the first time she slept in it.  I had tried everything and was just as concerned as you were about the loose fabric around her face with her escaping from her miracle blanket.  Give it a try.. it's the best baby product I've come across to date and I feel like I've tried everything out there!  I hope it does the trick for you too!
