Before getting pregnant I weighed about 140. Last night when I was at a friend's house I stepped on their scale and I weighed 175! Now I am worried that I have gained too much weight. My doctor hasn't said anything but all the sites I read say you should only gain 25 to 30. I am at 35 with 12 weeks to go! I have placenta previa and the doctor said no lifting or exercising. I would go for short walks, but I am also dealing with swelling and water retention and my feet will start to hurt really bad. I know that when I got the 140 weight, it was taken on my scale (which is now broken) and done in the morning not wearing clothes. The other one was at about 10 p.m., fully clothed after having several glasses of water and a big dinner.
I am going to ask my doctor about this tomorrow, but does anyone have any insight to this? If I am gaining too much weight what can I do to slow the gain down and will it hurt the baby?
Re: Worried I am gaining too much weight
Doctors can give you a number to stay around, but every woman's body and baby needs are different! I gained 42lbs with DD, and didn't feel bad about it at all. This time around, I will be 33 weeks on Wednesday and I have gained 17lbs so far. A friend of mine had her daughter in July and she gained 65lbs. Your body will gain what it needs, regardless of what you try to do.
Weight gain also starts to slow down in the last 8 weeks or so.
