I am too paranoid to do it. If I am sleeping he (or Lila when she was a baby) is sleeping in his crib. After being up most of the night last night nursing him, no nap today and spending so much time sitting on the floor with the photographer that I feel like my stitches might bust at any moment plus crushing back pain, I am spent. It is supposed to rain all day tomorrow and I would like nothing more than to spend all day in my bed sleeping, nursing, snugling and whatever else that doesn't involve getting up other than to eat and pee. How do I do this safely?
Re: If you cosleep/bedshare come in
I usually end up bedsharing about half the night with Isaac because he is still waking up to nurse and I just can't be up all night with him and then go to work the next day.
What I do is put him on the inside of the bed, kinda high up. I turn my pillow at an angle or completely sideways so it isn't near him. Then I pull the sheet so its up on me, but kinda going down diagonally across his feet (DH has kicked it off by then anyway, so he doesn't need it) so it's not near his face. Then I sleep on my side facing him and I put my top arm over his stomach/chest so I know if he moves or if DH gets to close to him.
Not sure any of that makes sense, but that's the best way to describe it.
Also? It took me forever to learn how to nurse lying on my side. I cannot for the life of me do it the way the book says and nurse with the boob on the side I'm lying on. I always nurse him with the boob on the side opposite the one I'm lying on and kinda lean in towards him.
I did it and plan to with #2, but it killed my back....which kept me awake, awake enough to put him back in the PNP when he was done.
ETA: If i was too tired to get up to put him back I would slide him up to the top of the bed where there was no covers.
This is something I must try.
My friend lent me her Snuggle Nest - it goes in the bed with you but it has high sides and looks like it prevents you from rolling onto the baby or doing anything like that.

That's exactly how I used to do it.

Bed sharing was not our plan & I initially had massive amounts of guilt over it. I now love it and feel quite safe doing it.
We had a very high bed, so we just put our mattress and box spring on the floor. MH and I use different blankets, so the one doesn't get pulled over her. I either curl around her for side lying nursing or hold her on my chest while I sleep on my back (if she'll have that). During the night, I switch from having her between me & MH to having her between me and the edge of the bed. MH is surprisingly aware of her and I'm not yet worried about her falling out of bed (I keep a hand on her).
Have a great day in bed with your baby!
Hmmmm I might need to try this. I haven't been able to nurse side lying. I usually start in cradle position and then lay down so he is on my chest/ stomach on his stomach, but I imagine this isn't great for his reflux. Your way would probably be better for reflux.
This is what I did with Button from the day we brought him home until he was over a year old. I would have been a walking zombie if I hadn't done this. I had to go back to work after six weeks.
What I did was put her up high near my head/face. I slept on my side with knees bent so she didn't squirm down. I use a temperpedic pillow and lay on it long ways or put MOST of it behind me so there is no fluff near her face.
I was parranoid at first but it's amazing how intune you can me. The slightest movement and I woke up.
