April 2012 Moms

I've just gotta come out and ask....

Has anyone else been having bad gas pains????  Be honest... I know I can't be alone.  I don't know if I ate something yesterday that made it worse or what.  I can't seem to really find much relief.  I have a list of medications I can take, but so far, no relief.  Phazyme (I think that's how it's spelled) is on the list, but I've never tried it before.  Has anything helped you if you have suffered too?

I joked with my DH that a war is being fought in my stomach and no one is winning so far....

  • Yup, gas has been crazy since week six or so... its gotten better for sure, but I still make the dog jump sometimes when its really loud... oopies.

  • Yup - I have weeks worth of poop stored up in me and am the most bloated, gassiest girl in all the land. It is attractive.

  • I struggled with this before my BFP (I have IBS), and nothing ever really helped much except for Bentyl (prescription) that reduced the abdominal cramping associated with the gas.  Unfortunately, my GI Dr. told me to stop taking it as soon as I was TTC.  I've actually let loose in front of my students, and no one should go near my car within the first hour after I get home.  It's painful - physically and emotionally.

  • I've been ok with gas. I eat a TON of fruit though, and drink a lot of water. I think it's the only things keeping me regular. I had terrible constipation after breaking my leg and being on narcotics. I can't imagine going through that again, so I keep it up with the fruit and fruit juice. And some V8. The one day I did have terrible pain, it was slight constipation and once I....cleared things out I was better. Hope you get some relief soon.

Sometimes a wamr bath can help a bit.

  • Same here -- I've always been gassy...but NOW, it's out of control at times.  every time I make a PFFFFFFFFFT in front of DH, he likes to remind me how sexy I am.  lol.

  • It's horible for me. The gas pains, loudness and stink is disgusting. I can out do DH now.

  • We have named my gas Phyllis, the Phantom Goose.

If there were a gas contest between me and DH, I'd end him first round.

  • Mine have gotten a lot better, I increased my fiber intake by eating a high fiber oatmeal every day and I try not to eat close to bed time. I used to have gas pain so bad it kept me up at night. I hope you find some relief soon.

Oh, also, I recently read that for some people, TUMS make gas worse! Sad

  • Yep, I feel like a balloon that's ready to pop. I have IBS that was completely under control before I got pregnant, but it's been awful since I got my BFP. There's nothing like waking up in the middle of the night with awful stomach cramps.

  • Yup. It hurts. I was going to try Miralax!

  • The gas pains have been bad, real bad... stop me in my tracks and need to lay down bad.  It's mostly pain though and is in my entire abdomen.  Not fun!

  • Thanks everyone for speaking up and although I'm glad I'm not the only one, it really sucks for all of us!

My problem is, it won't really come OUT.  If it would, I know I'd feel better.  I am also on Zofran, which has made me constipated some, but I've been taking something for that, and it has helped.  I have had bloated days, but nothing like what I've felt like yesterday and today.  Yesterday I went back and forth from lying on my stomach on the bed and DH rubbing my stomach.

Thanks for the heads up about the Tums...I'll stay away from those.  I tried nasty Maylox too because it was on my list, and it did nothing. I did drink some coffee, which I used to love, but sadly currently hate, which helped get things moving, but I'm still just totally uncomfortable.  I'm also guessing that this is not something that's going to go away, so I hope I can find something that will help me manage!

  • I had the same problems and once I woke myself up because of how bad it smelled.  I started taking probiotics 2 weeks ago, twice a day and that really helps.  Ahh the many charms of pregnancy.

  • I've noticed that my gas is the worst during the day, early evening... which is good since DH doesn't get home until 9 or 10pm. I am eating 3-4 servings of fruits/veggies a day and drink at least 2 large glasses of water a day. I have IBS, so I've been taking fiber pills and they seem to help when I remember to take them daily.

  • Yup, I've had a few that've totally knocked me on my ass!  As DH always says, air should NOT hurt that bad!

I thought about fiber pills or something like that.  I have never been diagnosed with IBS, but my mom has and I have a lot of her symptoms, and have for years. I didn't think there was much they could do for it, so I never had any testing done (colonoscopy, or any of that).  I've just always dealt with it.

There are certain fiber things I've tried to eat that hurt my stomach so bad, I have to be careful about those.  I know that fruit would help, but I'm still in that funk, where it doesn't appeal to me.  I have been trying to drink more water though.

As much as men enjoy doing it--NO it shouldn't hurt that bad lol!

  • I've had issues with gas since before the baby and I always found that drinking something hot, like tea or cocoa or something of the like, got things moving. It could be in the same category as the PP said about warm baths, just warming things up down there.

I tried peppermint tea last night because I read online that it helped, but I don't really feel like it did.  I may give it another try.  I have a hard time drinking hot tea without putting a ton of sugar in it and ruining it haha.

  • I'm in the same boat!!!!  I always wake up feeling fine and then starting at lunch and until I go to bed I'm completely gassy and it doesn't come out!!!!  It looks like I'm 6 months pregnant and I can't find anything that helps!!!  Sometimes it wakes me up in the middle of the night from the pain!!!  It's terrible!!

  • Update:  I'm going to chalk my terrible weekend of gas up to something that I ate, because it has gradually gone away.  I'm actually able to get some relief now.  I did buy some Phazyme, and I will NOT suffer next time.  If I end up taking any, I'll let everyone know if it helps.  I hope every one else finds some relief soon too!
