Babies on the Brain

I'm starting to freak out.

As you can see, my due date is in 6 days.  I'm dilated 2 cm (as of monday) I've been having contractions on and off, nothing major.  Here's my problem.  DH goes back to work on Thursday morning.  He will be gone for 2 weeks and then a 10 hr drive home.  Which will put him home on Friday morning.  I will then be 41 weeks and 6 days.

WTH am I supposed to do?  If I go into labor while he's gone there's no telling if he will make it back in time for the birth. A 10 HOUR DRIVE.  I have been talking to MW, it's been my plan to do all natural, but since DH's schedule got changed from 7/7 to 14/14 AND he got moved so far away, I am freaking out.

ETA: Thanks for letting me whine.  I feel a little better now Stick out tongue

  • Fvck.

I'd say you need to count on the very real possibility that he may not be there for it. What's your backup plan? You can't control labor, you just can't.

I wish I could swoop in with my Richie Rich helicopter and bring him home in time for delivery!

  • I'm sorry you're going through that..I'd be afraid he would miss it too..if it was me, I'd choose to be induced while he's still able to be there..but that kinda throws a wrench in your natural plans..
  • Eh... back up plan, he will drive home, if I have her before he arrives, I will be alone for the birth, except for MW and assistant.  Who wants to come help me? Tongue Tied

I'll come help!  I'm not far!

Also, in my experience the 2nd time around was way faster, but also way easier.

  • You don't have anyone else that can be there with you? Can you hire a doula?

  • I'm sure I could *possibly* find someone last minute, I've looked into doulas.  I'm not real big on strangers being there.  My mom lives near me, but she FREAKS out in situations and she would stress me out really bad.  When I had DD she was telling the doctor to give me a c-section so she could come out faster because "it was taking too long" so there's no way I'm inviting her in.

ETA: not that c-sections are horrible, it just wasn't necessary in DD's birth.  :)

Holy crap, do not bring your mom!

Maybe a doula would be the answer? I wish we could come down there and help!

  • Could he rent a car for the trip and if you go into labor drop it at the airport and fly home?
  • I'd totally come, but I'm farther away than your DH will be!
